Z71 questions
I have the 2000 GMC Z71 excab running 285 tires. I notice the rear has 2" spacers under the springs. Is a 2" lift by chance a factory part of the Z71 package? Just curious.

Re: Z71 questions
I know it is not a Z71 option because my 04' is not a Z71 and I have them as well. My truck has the trailer package, 3:73's, tranny cooler etc. So maybe it is part of that option to raise the rear up just a little more to compensate for the weight of adding a trailer.

Re: Z71 questions
Mine looks like that. And yes they do have torsion bars. In the front. Easy enough to just crank them up in front to get the 2".
I ask because I have seen other GMC Z71s, even in the brochures, that look to be lifted as well more than the Chevys. I'm not into lifted trucks or anything. It's just a curiousity and I may want to drop it the 2" sometime, who knows.

Re: Z71 questions
After seeing the pic I just had to go look... my 00 Z71 has those blocks as well.
Probably a 4wd vs 2wd thing for the chevy trucks (not z71 specific.) If you look at the GMT800 trucks, it's always been pretty clear the 2wd's are lower than the 4wd's.

Re: Z71 questions
Just went out and checked my 97 Burb 4wd. All stock. It does not have those spacer blocks. It does not have the Z71 package either. Maybe the package is the determining factor?
It has been asked numerous times over the years just what makes up a Z71 package. Lots of ideas. We all know it's decals, beefier shocks and skid pan. What else?

Re: Z71 questions
Those cast iron blocks are stock on only the 4wd 99-06 GM 1/2 ton trucks. The Z71 package is just 46mm shocks(the standard are 42mm),skid plates(usually metal) behind front bumper and under transmission, and a sticker. They use the same springs and torsion bars. This has not changed since the inception of the Z71 package on the 4wd, there might be a difference when they started using the package on the 2wd a few years ago.
