Emergency brakes

In the process of mocking up my '53 Chevy 3100 project, I've decided to use a different type of emergency brake setup, as I don't care for the stock-type one. I've gone through the search feature, gone through the builds, and not much on this subject. I'd like a push-type pedal, something simple. Any suggestions?

Re: Emergency brakes

It's all out there... lot's of options.

The stock foot operated GM style used from 67 up are pretty simple but would require some custom fabrication on your part for mounting.

There are manufacturers selling that type of set-up also, as well as floor mounted and transmission mounted units. I have used both and they are good quality. http://lokar.com/interior_pages/ebrakes.htm

Here are a couple photos of the set-up in my '65

Re: Emergency brakes

We are doing that very thing (push pedal) in my truck. Haven't gotten that far yet or I'd share some info with you, but we're close. We'll be using a brake pedal from a '96 GMC.

Re: Emergency brakes

I pulled the pedal and cable out of the 74 donor truck and used it. The mounting bracket studs match the 58-59 hood hinge bolt spacing. Cable connections take some work but not terribly complicated. Truck is not running so I do not know if it is working right yet. I looked at it this week end and the main cable seems to be binding up, may have too tight of a bend under the cab or needs some lube.

Re: Emergency brakes

I've had a twin to what OrrieG has in his in the 48 in almost the exact spot. It works like a champ and is up out of the way. You do have to lift your foot a little bit extra but it isn't an issue unless you can't lift your left foot easily.

Re: Emergency brakes

I used the Lokar push pedal and cables. Works great, looks good, and was easy to install. Can't snap any pics for you , truck is in storage till the snow clears...
