Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

Somewhere I have placed my hinge pins and bushings. I have two pins that are on the bench, because I had to shorten them. The other 2 pins and bushings are missing. I have over three hours invested in the hunt. Its not all a waste of time I had a beer with me all the time I'm going to order another set on Friday I don't find them soon.
What have you misplaced and how long did you look for it?

I misplaced one of the air conditioning brackets on my ex burb. Its weird because I was able to account for all the other brackets and bolts.

Not in the last 30 minutes. ha.

On a similar note my Dad's German Sheppard had a habit of stealing screwdrivers and hammers all the time.

I do it all the time. Tonight I stumbled across the idler arm support bracket that I misplaced a couple of years ago. At least I haven't lost anything expensive... Yet.

Re: Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

Yes! I ordered a Camaro dash to get the tach. When it came, I pulled the tach and the light bulbs and neatly put them in another box. I put the leftover cluster in the box it came in. About 3 weeks later, went looking for the tach and guess what? I think I threw away the box with the tach and kept the junk cluster box. Sometimes I think it is less trouble to simply put $100 bills in the bed of the truck and drive off down the highway..................

Re: Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

Every day. And more parts come up "missing" these days than they did ten years ago.

In fact, I now have three sets of defrost vents, six front turn signal lenses, four (or is it five?) door handles
(I hope I have two good ones), two extra power steering hoses, and an extra ashtray that I owe back to ECE.

I know that no one over 55 will ask me why I have ordered stuff I already have.

Good idea to order a replacement. This guarantees you will find them within 24 hours of delivery.

I love it when I find parts I 'lost' and forgot about.

Lose them all the time...especially after I organize. I always know where it is until I clean up.

Re: Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

Wow if I could only get this kind of response on my build thread! I laughed at most of the responses. I am glad I am not alone. Goats86 I think we may have something in common, they might have been thrown away. We had a super bowl party in the garage. Wife helped clean before the party. I was grittin the whole time.

Re: Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

This should be a poll asking how many times you misplace parts.
Or how much time you spend looking for parts you know you just sat down somewhere.

Re: Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

what happens to me is i "misplace" something, and then if i don't find where it was hiding i give up. then i go look for something else that i "misplaced" and end up finding what i originally misplaced. i've lost lighters that i was holding the entire time or was in my pocket, and one time i "misplaced" a mountain dew. i searched high and low for the thing, probably didn't help that i had about 3 cases worth of cans scattered around the house, and the one dew i looked at probably 30 times and told myself was empty. when i was cleaning up all the cans, giving them a little jiggle to make sure they're empty, i found the one that i "misplaced" and looked at 30 times

Ha ha, funny you mentioned this. I've been looking for one of my mirrors in the garage for months now, can't find the damn thing anywhere. So right now I don't have either mounted.

Well I decided to go ahead and assume they are lost forever. I ordered 2 more sets. I figure i'll resell them if the others are ever found.

Re: Ever misplaced a part for your truck?

I've looked for stuff I was holding in my hand for 20 minutes... And putting something somplace where I know I won't lose it ia about as useful as throwing it in my back yard. They say this gets worse with age, I can't even imagine!

I quit working on my truck if I drop a bolt and it doesn't land in a pan of oil halfway across the shop.
