First-time pictures

Well, I've been on here for a couple years or so but have mostly just been gleaning information so I thought it was about time I put up a couple pictures. I recently discovered, to my horror, that my pickup does not have original paint. I'm past denial and isolation, anger, and bargaining so far. I guess right now in at depression and am working toward acceptance. However, if someone knows for a fact that some trucks were painted after the rubber was put in the windows feel free to lift my spirits immediately. Anyway, I bought the truck a few years ago from an 80 year-old friend of a friend. He wasn't trying to sell it but I was putting a garage roof on for his son and spotted it from my perch. He threw it in as payment so I basically got it for two day's labor. I've since added wheels, taken off the camper, new edelbrock 1405, magnaflow mufflers, and new bumper. I think that's about it. Hopefully some day I'm rich and famous and can dump some big money into it, but for now it's my pretty-decently-optioned-daily-driver-fixer-upper.

Re: First-time pictures

That is one beautiful truck! The owner should be real proud it landed in the hands of an enthusiast. How about more photos?

On the paint, don't know but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Thanks for posting this lovely creature!!

Re: First-time pictures

That's a pretty nice driver. Sometimes those end up being the most fun...not too worried about scratches and such...just a bit of tweaking here and there and your good to go. Best of luck! Roger

Re: First-time pictures

Nice looking truck, lots of options too! The highlander interior looks to be in good shape. I would say you got a good deal for a "couple days work", how come i never get deals like that! Joseph

Re: First-time pictures

That is a very nice truck.....don't worry... that is the original paint...i think someone touched up the doors when they changed the original camper mirrors to the sport mirrors it has now...the reason I say this is because of the holes it has on the doors and the option DF22 listed on the spid. Does it have the holes on the passenger door also??

It's official....I'm stealing that seat cover idea since I'm not innovative enough to come up with anything near as cool as that! What a great find and congrats on your purdy pickup!

Very nice!
I wouldn't be second guessing anything about it, just enjoying a really sharp looking truck that most people would admire.

I wish that were the case, but I forgot to mention that I changed the mirrors myself. So yeah, it has mirror holes on both sides (not for long though).

I put the picture of the chip in the paint on the bed to confirm that it had some type of body filler underneath. The bed is straight as an arrow and when I took the camper off, it didn't even have a scratch in it. I assumed that it was just a straight old truck that was protected its whole life by the camper, but now I have my doubts. I still think it's great, but I just wish I knew that there were no hidden monsters under the paint. The PO had it for 15 years or so and he said he didn't do anything to it, so at least any patches etc... seem to be holding up.

Some things that I literally threw away include the camper, bumper, one of the "Custom Camper" emblems, mirrors, original wheels, carb., points dist. etc...and yes, I regret it. I especially wish I had kept the camper. That thing was sweet, I just didn't have anywhere to store it and it wasn't really in line with the vision I had at the time.

Thanks for the complements too, everyone; the truck comes second only to my wife and baby.

Re: First-time pictures

To use an American expression...It's a peach or is it peachy? I think what you said here....

"Hopefully some day I'm rich and famous and can dump some big money into it, but for now it's my pretty-decently-optioned-daily-driver-fixer-upper"

Sums it up for a lot of us.

And a few more pics wouldn't go amiss!!

Re: First-time pictures

A couple of things...
Two days labour...M----- F----- !!!
AND you want original paint...M---- F-----!
Lol, just having a laugh...the way I look at it is, repainted great, now you do what you want without having to feel like a molester. Cut-dash? great, someone else can be the bad guy and I can enjoy the system!
Sometimes imperfections let us enjoy the trucks even more.

Wow. Two days work. That's a killer deal. That seat looks really well preserved. "Pretty decently optioned?" Not a whole lot more you could have got. You scored big time.

Yeah, I was definitely in the right place at the right time. I saw a '69 in a calender and decided I had to have one. I looked tenaciously for about a year with no success. Either they weren't for sale or they were about 8,000 over-priced and I had a college student/soon-to-be-wed budget. Anyway, once I cooled off and stopped flagging people down to make them an offer, it just sort of fell into my lap. My brother and I started up a little roofing business to keep the collectors away and this guy called us off of the roof we were doing to ask if we would do his shop/barn he was building. He had started it but it still needed 30 squares of 24/12 put on and another 20 or so of 10/12. It was pretty tough work dangling from the rope on the steep stuff, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It probably came to about 1,000 dollars worth, which is still a good deal in my book. He said he hadn't driven it in years and didn't even know if it would run. I fiddled with it for the afternoon and it roared to life after a little gas, some plugs, and a charge. The tire had been flat for some time and bucked like a son of a gun, which was interesting with the over-the-cab camper on it. He was happy to see it go to someone that was going to give it some TLC and I was ecstatic to take it off his hands. He knew it was worth more but I think he liked me. The rest is history.

Re: First-time pictures

Nice truck. You didn't get hurt at all. Repaint wouldn't bother me for a total of a grand investment. I would probably pay a grand just for or a freshly painted rustfree cab and doors and no interior what-so-ever..and have a smile on my face.
