Those with factory tachs... check in!

I'm looking to see if someone can post a picture of where the tach wire comes through the firewall. I'm trying to determine which dimple is the 'correct' dimple as there are 4 to pick from depending on the options installed.

I "think" it's the 3rd from the bottom, but I want to make sure I'm selecting the correct one. Working on a project for my FIL.

Please post a picture of your firewall.

Thanks in advance guys!
Nate

Re: Those with factory tachs... check in!

My dimple where I drilled my tach hole was exactly where the picture shows it to be. Not quite as deep as those in the picture. I used the dimple as a punch hole for the 3/4 bit. There was even a perforated hole in my firewall material to match this location.

Thanks for the post.

What did you mean by 'not quite as deep?'

Re: Those with factory tachs... check in!

Nate,... I posted in this thread,...
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...ad.php?t=43277

I should have posted here.
Lot's of confusion on where the "original location" of the tach wire hole should be in the firewall.
Since the 67-68 firewalls are different,... you have to address the 69-72 trucks only.

I don't have a picture out of the assembly manual.
Maybe someone else can reply.

Re: tach wire ?

Here are two different ones. the first one is a '67-'68 six cyl and i think one of the cables shown is for a cable driven tach. The second one is '71 six & V-8.

Hey Leon... you don't by chance have UPC-1's diameter as it refers to the bottom of the picture posted above? Hole Dimensioning...

Re: Those with factory tachs... check in!

take it back what I said a few nights ago. I used the dimple that's opposite of the 1-5/8 mark on the ruler. I looked at several factory tach rigs before I drilled at that location. forgot what size I drilled though. I believe I drilled a full size less than the grommet on the harness.
