Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

I put a 2101 Performer on my pretty-much-stock 350 several years ago after my OEM intake cracked. Seems very similar to the stock manifold, no noticeable difference in power, driving, cold start.... I don't know the particulars but it's just an intake manifold, gets the job done but nothing fancy. Still have the Q-jet on it.

If you're coming from a 2-bbl carb to a four-bbl on a 2101, you will definitely get more power than with the 2-bbl.

Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

It's hard to beat an Edelbrock Performer 2101 manifold and Edelbrock 1406 carburetor for performance, mileage, and ease of install. My first hot rod part I ever bought was an Edelbrock Performer intake back in 1989 and I've had a lot of them since then on many vehicles.

Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

i know the dual plane intakes have made a come back, we had them in the '60s- edelbrock c3b was one, c3bx was another. one was a little taller than the other. but if you have your truck geared to let your engine rev then you owe it to your self to try a single plane intake. a day & night difference. i know the dyno numbers say more torque with a dual plane but if you try a single plane you will never go back. i like the old edelbrock torker, and weiand made one also, don't remember the name. i built a 350 with the edelbrock kit- cam, chain & gears and intake. it was a dog. slap a torker to it & it woke up. i changed a stock 454 to a torker & was like the other bank started firing! just what i like.

Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

I found an edelbrock performer squarebore for sale on CL. Is that what I want? I know there's a square bore and a spreadbore. I don't know the difference.

Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

Single planes are good for high RPM. You will lose low end grunt with a single plane manifold. I had a Weiand Excellerator (single plane) on a street/strip car... great manifold for high RPM drag strip stuff.

One of the best dual plane manifolds on the market right now is the Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-gap.

Topped with a Holley carb of course...

Spread bore mounts a Quadrapuke style carb... big barrels in the back, and littles up front.

Squarebores mount the Edelbrock style carbs, and the Holley 1850, 4150/4160 type carbs. All 4 barrels are the same size.

Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

Depends on what you plan on doing. If you are getting a squarebore style manifold then yes... you will need an squarebore carb. If you wanna run a stock Q-jet... you will need a spreadbore manifold or an adapter.

However... if you're lookin' to hook up all the smog stuff again. You will need a manifold that will take an EGR valve. Then you might have to run the stock carb.

No, I'd pull all of the smog stuff off. Where is the EGR valve?

Re: 4 barrel manifold recommendation

The EGR valve is on the passenger side of the intake manifold, near the back corner of the carb. It is round with a vacuum line going to it.
