Re: resale: stock vs modified suspension

I'd say it depends solely on the buyer. I don't really look at trucks for what they are. I look at them for what they can become.

Re: resale: stock vs modified suspension

I think the old concept of nice stock trucks being worth more than properly modified truck in equal condition is one of those fallacies that has been around for the past 50 years.

Unless I am building a truck specifically to sell I won't worry about what modifications might do the "value". If you are afraid that lowering your truck might hurt the value don't lower it, simple as that. But on most of the 67/72 trucks you can swap springs and lower the truck and drive it and then swap springs back when you decide to sell it.

if I looked under a truck and saw heated coils that were all messed up I'd be looking for at least what it would cost to fix off of the asking price.
if I looked under a truck and saw heated leaf springs I'd walk away, if the p.o. Does work like that consistently youd be lucky to make it home alive in your "new" truck.

Re: resale: stock vs modified suspension

It depends on the truck as a whole and what the buyer wants. It also matters on what form of lowering. An extreme lowered truck with chopped up frame,no inner fenders, etc. is committed to only those who want a toy like that and have no interest in an actual truck. A stock truck is a diamond in the rough to a buyer who wants to do all that stuff and they will pay the price.

Does it affect the price? Yes! If done properly it increases the value.
Does it narrow the potential buyers? Yes! Certain buyers will not look at lowered trucks, but all buyers will look at a stock truck.

I can sell a lowered truck for more than a stock truck because the buyer wants one lowered and might save time and money with the work already done.

I can sell a stock truck for less money, but have a larger field of potential buyers.
