dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
ok so i waas tryna prime my oil pump today and could only get the driver side to prime, so i ggogled it. found out that i gotta have the tool to prime the passenger side cus the oil will just drain down to the pan.
upon finding this info, i ran across this pic http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-.../PrimeTool.JPG does anyone know what the hell this comes out of? just cusrious, never seen this and looks like where you screw in a speedo cable.

Re: dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
what was you use'n to prime it ? I made my primer out of an old dist. I just weld'd a nut to the top of the shaft. I put a socket on a cordless drill and spin it pretty fast, some time's it takes a while to get all the push rod to suqirt oil.
I dont know what they mean bout it will just run back to the pan, thats what it's spose'd to do .

Re: dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
the dist shaft controls a oil gallery that's why some of it is machined...
but yeah get a broken dist chop out all the guts, get rid of the gears.. and you have yourself a primer for free pretty much..

Re: dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
Do what Mongoose did for a primer. As far as your question about the cable mounting boss on the distributor Malibu has it 100% correct. jim

Re: dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
Im pretty sure to get oil to all the lifters you gotta turn the motor as you prime it, like as in put a socket on the balancer nut an turn the crank while someone primes it.

Re: dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
i took a old distributor and made one, didnt take but about 3-4 minutes to get it to come out the passenger side, and i didnt have to turn the motor either. now i just gotta finish wiring the FI system and i should be up and running.

Re: dizzy with speedo cable? wtf???
YEP...sometimes you have to do this to get oil to come out all the pushrods on a fresh motor.
