Question Is this a "rarest of the rare" factory option?

Look at this E-bay auction. Is this really factory ot not?

I have yet to see it in any of the GM books or restoratiopn catalogs from GM.
I do know it came in some other Gm cars...
The head and glass shape looks very much like the one I just sold out of a 68(ish) Eldarodo. But mine had no light in it though.

Maybe a dealer installed item too...no tellin.

I have one of those I just removed from a 69 or 70 cab. It looked factory but I have never heard of it before so I figured it was after market. Be interesting to see what it goes for now.

Never even heard of this one, let alone seeing it.

Like Hooter I have one in each of my Chevelles. I've seen them in numerous A-bodies, never in a truck.

Looks like an "A" body mirror to me.

Don't forget "B" bodies too. I pulled one from a 1970 Caprice once. The Buick, Pontiac, Olds also used these.

Trucks never had them that I've ever heard.

I tried to scan a picture of one in a 1971 GMC owner's manual, but I guess the file was too large. I know they were available in GMC, but not sure about Chevy-I've never seen any literature for it on a Chevy

Don't know about Chevys but they were available for GMC trucks. Just like JQ-72 said, there is a picture in the back of the owners manual.

I have one of these mirrors that I pulled from a 71 4x4 chevy. I held on to it as I have never seen another one. Looks just like the photo at top of this posting.

I think Gee_Emm mentioned that in one of his posts, it might have been a dealer option?

I got one I pulled out of a truck. Don't know what year cause all that was left was the rearview mirror. LOL It was a bare cab!

The only option numbers to do with inside rear view mirrors is

D36 Non-glare inside mirror
D32 Rear view mirror
D33 Remote control outside rearview mirror (that would be cool)
D34 Visor vanity mirror

So if there is no option number listed does that automatically make it a dealer option?

I never knew that these were installed in trucks. Cool.

UF1 is the option code for this mirror on the cars. (probably the same for a truck) On the cars, this mirror could be ordered seperatly or in a package. (comfort/convienience)

Wouldn't you see the wire though? On cars, the wire runs behind the pillar cover. On a truck, the only place to run the wire would be in the windshield gasket. I guess you would see where it exits and goes through the dash???

you could easily drill a hole into the ceiling and run the wire to the dome light (which is always getting a full 12 volts) and power it that way.
Just becouse it is in the back of the GMC manual doesn't make it an option...many of those items were "authorized dealer installed items" and many of them were regualer options with a lagit RPO number that were installed after the truck was on the lot.
