I.D. Plates
Is there a I.D. plate that has the build options on a GMC. Like the ones used on cars. that says the engine, trans, color and trim options? I can only find the S/N tag on the cab post that states the year, class (1000, 1500). I'm sure they had one for trucks since they did it with cars. I thought it would be on the drivers side kick plate next tothe vent, but I don't see it.

Re: I.D. Plates
my big gmc 4000 has a plate in the glove box with the engine/trans/axle id's
my 64, and 66 both have a kickpanel tag like a chevy, and they both have been painted over by the previous owner the 4000 had a kick panel tag, but it is missing.

Re: I.D. Plates
I didn't see it when I was cleaning. It may be behind the old speaker box. I'll remove the speaker and see. This should tell me the color, wether it had two tone paint, and what options came factory installed, right? Provided I can find a way to decipher the code.

Re: I.D. Plates
All that the chev tag tell is trim (paint) and wheelbase
the paint code should denote twotone though, since solid and 2 tone colors had different codes. other than finding a factory build sheet in your truck I think you are sol for finding out what options were factory installed, a receipt for the truck from the dealer would show any dealer installed options...but usually those are long gone.

Re: I.D. Plates
I have written quotes / work sheets from all the local dealers, including Chevy ,Dodge, International, Ford and GMC. It's hard to tell which GMC dealer he got it from but I guess if I spend some time I can decipher which one it was. This guy REALLY did a lot of resaerch into what truck and camper he was going to buy. And, he filed it all away.

Re: I.D. Plates
thats pretty cool. I have a bill of sale (1955) for a 55 chevy that has a 49 chevy listed for a trade in for $800, also has all the options, and the delivery cost.

Re: I.D. Plates
So, I looked all over last night to see if I couls find teh I.D. plackerd. No such luck. Not even a sign that it had one to begin with, and this truck is as unmolested as you can get. So I guess I'll have to go with the sales sheets and see if everytihing is there.

Re: I.D. Plates
Have you looked under the seat cushions? In cars you'll find a folded piece of paper that says RPO (Regular Production Options)
If you find it, here's a pdf file that you can use to decipher it: http://www.marshu.com/images-website...-car-codes.pdf
