tailgate metal layers sperading what can be done to fix?

me and jasonbird have both talked about our projects through pms and both have a common issue in our 67 tailgates the 2 layers are spreading. what can be done to fix that jason's and mine are in good condition and are original to the cab or truck so it would suck to have to throw them away so what can be done to fix this?

any ohthers that have this problem go ahed and ask any questions that may have not been asked on this matter...

thanks for soon to be help!

check with your local fab/metal shops and see if any of them have a spot welder. we used to have one in the metal shop back in high school-long before you were born and not too many years after your truck was built, lol. you can clamp it back together, drill out the original spot welds, use a flat piece of brass as a backing and mig weld the holes you drilled-the weld won't stick to the brass. i use an old brass proportioning valve since it is flat and fairly thick to absorb heat.

Got pix? I am not fully comprehending your problem, unless that you're writing about is a separation of the metal at the base of the tailgate. I'm thinking that if that is what you mean, then there is some corrosion within and between those pieces.

Re: tailgate metal layers sperading what can be done to fix?

you could maybe sand in between the pieces real good, JB Weld it and clamp the snot out of it?? Not ideal, but it might work in a pinch.

I am thinking of doing that as I don't have a welder...

Re: tailgate metal layers sperading what can be done to fix?

really the only way i see fixin it right is to drill the all the spots out and re weld them all. after you clean up the inner pieces. lots of work for a cheap tailgate i guess

where you saying there's a differences between 67 and the rest tailgates?
