Cleaning factory seat fabric.
Has anyone tried to have the seat fabric cleaned on their orig seats. My seat fabric is in really good shape. Just the foam and padding is broken down. I wanted to see if I could clean it before having new foam and padding put in. I was thinking about taking the seat cover off and having it dry cleaned. that would be the most gental way of getting it cleaned that I know of. Anyone ever do this?

Re: Cleaning factory seat fabric.
First of all Dry Cleaning is by no means gentle! Your items get placed in a huge washing/drycleaning machine and instead of using water and detergent a Chemical called Tetrachloroethylene is used. I've had great luck with using Dawn dishwash soap, it also has a grease cutter in it. Scrub the seat with a mild brush with the soap and water then extract it with a wet/dry vac. There are alot of cleaners available at the Auto Zones too.

That is impeccable surfdaddy! It looks like that was a common pattern in '60:
I just scrubbed mine with simple green and water. I didn't get a before and after pic so I'm not sure how well it worked....

Re: Cleaning factory seat fabric.
You might try a product called Calgon also, it is a water softener but works extremely well for cleaning upholstery and not destroying or bleaching it.

Re: Cleaning factory seat fabric.
I'll remove it from the frame and try it. I guess I'll look into some type of UV blocker since it won't have the burlap seat cover on it anymore. Cort, I'm trying to get in touch of the owner of a auto upolstery supply company who used to find all the fabrics for all american cars. If I can get the fabric would you want to redo your front seats in the same fabric?

Re: Cleaning factory seat fabric.
Aboslutely! Let me know...I would need enough for the front seat and jumper seat and also the middle seat.

Re: Cleaning factory seat fabric.
I'm talking to a friend who works in the studio business and does cars and sets. He's on the HOA board with me. We were talking about the truck since I put it my driveway last night. He knows the guy who I used to work for and is checking for me. The thinks he might have another lead for me also. It was a long time ago when I worked for him (late 70's and we were both pretty young) so I'm hoping but not getting my hopes up too high, though I think there should be some rolls someplace in the country. Just a matter af tracking it down.
