Yep, brushed on house paint camo. I didn't do it, but I'm not going to change it. Got it fired off for the first time in....who knows, years. Fuel pump and carb. are next. Has 4 new mud terrains, very little rust, floors are good, glass is good, body is good, with a few ranch truck dings.
235, sm420, rockwell t-case. Was towed (by PO)with hubs locked in and driveshafts disconnected, blew front pumpkin, so I'll be looking for a good axle for up front, maybe a matched set, since the rear axle looks to have been swapped in from a 2wd at some point.

Kind of funny this cropped back up. I actually traded this off to a buddy before doing much to it, and it's coming back to me soon. My buddy swapped in a matched set of 80 Blazer axles, and started a power steering and steering column swap. It's going to need the steering figured out soon, and a driveshaft made, I guess to go from the rockwell divorced case to both front and rear shafts, since the yokes are different. Also the new front axle has those awfull "automatic" locking hubs. Not sure if those will work with the Rockwell? I had cleaned out the tank, and swapped some distributor parts and fired it off when I had it. My buddy had the carb rebuilt, and it runs like a sewing machine. trans and t-case seem to function in all gears, but with no driveshafts.......who knows. Anyone with ideas, chime in. After I get it back here I'll get plenty of photos and start looking for advice and ideas. Thanks for bringing this back to life, was going to start looking for it soon.

Looking for advice on steering columns. While my buddy had it, he yanked the OE column and gearbox and axles....they are gone. He installed 80 model Blazer axles, and mounted the 80 Blazer power steering box to the frame. As in drilled holes and bolted it on.
Question is.....what year columns will be a close fit? Trying not to hack up the dash or firewall. I'm thinking I can get some u-joint type steering shafts to connect to the steering box. In my mind, the steering gear box should be reinforced somehow, but I'm not overly smart. Anyone done this, or point me to a thread about power steering swaps and column swaps?

There are a few ways to go with a column. Does the truck have a floor shift or a column shift? Of course the very easiest would be from a '60-'62 truck. The '63-'66 columns can be made to work as well. You might check the classifieds here and see if someone has one for sale. A popular column to use is one out of an older van, but they can be hard to find in some areas. The next easiest would be one from a '67-72 truck.

As for mounting the steering box, I sell those adapter plates. Even though they are intended for 2wd's, I have sold several to guys that used them on the early 4x4's. There is a link to the for sale thread in my signature line

Captainfab, thanks....you are allready on my list of people to throw money at, at some point. I'm going to want your brake booster setup, and some other stuff. Also need ideas on mounting the 80's style power steering pump to the 235. It's a 4 spd granny. I'm not opposed to going back to a non-power gearbox and column. Trying not to spend much money.

Worked a little today on it. Swapped out that one goofy U-bolt on the driver side. Decided to yank the carpet to see what was under there. Pleasantly surprised. This is a pretty solid old truck. I think I'll brush a little acid on it and roll on a bedliner and call it good. Also started it and let her run a bit. Just like a sewing machine.
