Frustrated

Like everything else I do to this truck I don't know why I thought putting power steering in it would go easy!!! So I am trying to find the right engine brackets that will allow me to keep the Alton the drivers side and have theps pump right below can anyone help? Maybe just maybe someday I will actually drive this thing again.

Re: Frustrated

Man, I feel your pain! To the best of my knowledge, and it ain't much, You need a 1972 & BACK bracket for the short water pump. The bracket is more or less a cradle that the pump sits in. The tank is round for that pump, not the "ham can" style. What I did is to use later model brackets, ham can style tank/pump and put the 12si high on the passenger's side. To make things worse for me, I HAD a Canadian style intake and the upper brackets are different still! Man the power steering is a plus, though! It took me a bunch of trips to the salvage yard and a lot of time researching, but I finally got a package that all works together. You will too! Best wishes, Les

Re: Frustrated

or a cheap alternative is to put on a factory serpentine setup off a newer motor even the 4.3l brackets fit and then just take the water pump, alternator, power steering, etc with it, normally for less than a $100 you can take all of it a pick and pullName: mike 2-21 001.JPG

Re: Frustrated

We carry both the small & big block V8 aftermarket power steering brackets for these trucks that allow you to mount the power steering bracket in the original location low on the drivers side below the alterntor using a short water pump
They are part # 2220456 for the small block V8 motors $49.95 a set and you can find them near the bottom of the page on the following page of our web site
http://www.gmcpauls.com/steering2.htm
If you are looking for a original stock version shoot me a email at
Paul@GMCPauls.com
and I'll look through my extra parts to see if I can locate a complete set as I think I have 1-2 extras. If I have some still I sell the used original brackets for $60.00 a set + shipping.
