Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

I have been looking for a set of Buddy Seats (in decent condition) for my truck for awhile. No luck so far. This got me thinking... if so many people want them but nobody wants to get rid of em, would reasonably priced remanufactured Buddy Seats sell? I guess I'm taking a pole because I know a manufacturer who would build the frame for me; cushions and upholstery optional,if I have a market for them. How much would you pay for a brand new set of Buddy Seat? Holler Back!

I think if I went with an aftermarket seat I'd get somethhing nicer than what the truck could have come with.

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

I have a set for the one truck at the moment I need them for. But,you gotta figure what they cost when you do find them close enough to pick up (if not, figure $$$hipping),hopefully complete, what foam costs if they need it,and the cost of "custom-only" covers when you compare the cost of reproduced. I'm saying it may be feasible when you figure a what person can have tied up in a set.

Maybe it's the exclusivity of a decent set that makes them attractive. *shrug*

What's your definition of reasonably priced?

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

I think they may be more of a cool original option than anything.I mean if they were made aftermarket then anyone could have a set and the cool factor would go down.

Here's a set that a friend has. Last summer, he wanted $500 for it. He still has 'em. Wonder why.....

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

Complete re-do of BB's with new foam ($500), shop custom installed covers will run (covers $300+ Labor $300). So the frames themselves are worth no more than $400 tops. The fact they are somewhat hard to find make them worth what people ask for them. But when you end up replacing the foam makes them an expensive investment. As a complete bench foam/ custom cover can be done for much less.

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

I was thinking about the same type of setup for a while, then decided to go with a modern version of that with the 40/20/40 seats out of an early 2000's Chevy. Center console, cup holders, shoulder belts built in.

$120 on craigslist
$15 for hardware
Half dozen new holes in the floor
1 afternoon of fighting with it

How long have you been looking? Bottom line; sought after parts take time to find. You just have to be patient and regularly search ads, CL, Ebay, ect. Personally, I had to have the Buddy Seats. Nothing else looked right to me. After about a yr I found a near perfect set on Ebay that came out of a 68'. They were being offered Buy-It-Now for $550 shipped. I wasted no time scooping them up. Cost me $350 to have recovered with custom made covers.

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

just keep your eyes and ears open. i've bought them as cheap as $75.00 out of a wrecking yard and once traded a decent bench seat straight up for a set that needed driver side foam work-i swapped them while he was loading his truck helping my next door neighbor move. i saw the seats and asked if would be interested in a trade for the bench +some cash and he was happy with just the bench.

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

Most restored sets with good/new foam and new covers runs from 900-1200.

So if someone can come up with a 6-900 complete solution complete with covers I think it would sell.

Just keep in mind the expense of becoming a vendor if you want to advertise them on here

a set not redone is going to cost usually around $400 plus shipping. They are getting harder to find out there

Re: Buddy Seats; who has some and who wants them...?

i have bud buckets, i love them nice and comfy.....great seat(s) we all know what they look like so i wont post any pics....

when you buy them the major things that no one notices is: the cba brace for the center seat, the 4 brackets that bolt the center console to the frame work, and the adjuster lever...they are always broken/gone.

That's great - I had the same thing happen to me. A guy working in our yard came in one day in a '68 GMC he was using as a work truck that had a set of buddy buckets, and he traded me straight across for my just refinished bench. Killer deal!
