shaved whitewalls
So we found a guy in portland who will do em for 15 bucks a piece. I took him in the old rears and he did em in about 10 mins. It seems the oils had stained one around the letterring but it was worth it to me so I didn't have to spends hours to get the same results. You guys decide. I got a clean set of 235/75/15 skinny whites for the front. Now I'm contemplating having him make the white bigger on those. Crap! I can't post the pics from my phone on here. Gimme a few mins and I'll have the pics up.

Looks B/A to me. I say its money well spent. I have seen the do it yourselfers, and they aren't so clean around the edges

Re: shaved whitewalls
well, I got stuck into the wheels last night and I wanted to try and make the white walls stand out, so I painted em black and clened em up.

Re: shaved whitewalls
Does this cause any harm to the tires integrity?

Re: shaved whitewalls
I would have to say that in my opinion no. I'm no tire expert but the amount of rubber actually removed from the tire was minimal. I was looking on you tube and a guy cross sectioned a shaved white wall and there was plenty of rubber underneath after he did it by hand. The guy that did these only took the bare amount off and then buffed where he took off to get it white.

Re: shaved whitewalls
Damn, those look great. I should have got a pic yesterday, but I'll get some this weekend. I like the slightly wider white wall.

Re: shaved whitewalls
I have ran shaved whites for years, no worries. An old trick that was passed on to me to help with the bleed thru letters is to use " nurse white shoe" dye, or the white dye sold by KIWI for running shoes. works good

Re: shaved whitewalls
I think there are white wall markers, too. I remember having something for my raised white letters years ago.

Re: shaved whitewalls
This is really funny, in the 60's any decent hot rodder would not be caught dead running white sidewall tires....now it is the in thing............61 yrs old in Tulsa, OK

Re: shaved whitewalls
I wouldnt suggest doing it your self theres no way of knowing how far your grinding!!,but Thats my opinion do what you want, i used a shop that has a machine that does it and i feel is much safer since the grinding wheel is in a fixed position as it grinds tire and it was cheap around $30 bucks a tire....the lines are pretty straight and everything, the guy that does them in my area says if you want the widest whitewall to use the tires with white lettering instead of the "pinner" whitewall tires heres a few pics of mine:
