What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
For some odd reason I'm having a ton of trouble staying motivated. I can go work on my '69 drag truck all day every day, but as soon as it comes to working on my other '69 so I can drive it, I don't want to work on it at all.
So like the Title asks, What do you guys do to get motivated? |

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
That's what used to keep me motivated, but I'm no longer in high school so there for I don't really have something I can show off that I built myself.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
i find it very hard to believe that you guys arent motivated just by the fact that you own the best built truck and best looking truck there is to be made!!!!!!!!! how is none of what i am saying not keeping any of you guys motivated!!!!
edit if your truck is in parts my motivation was also putting a fender or somthin on it make it look more together or ''mocking up'' the truck it helped Last edited by 67chevy1series; 02-24-2011 at 02:01 AM. |

haha well I stay motivated no matter the weather or how tired I am, I will work on my drag truck. Just for some reason I can't seem to find anything to motivate me to work on my DD.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
Sorry didn't notice the other half of your message. My DD 100% complete. It just needs a few new things. So putting something on it wouldn't help.
Just looking to see what all keeps everyone else motivated. |

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
I love my truck, that's what keeps me going. We all have bad days when it's hard to get motivated, usually all it takes for me is get out there and get started on something. Then I start moving at a better pace.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
I have a similar problem with working on my daily driver. Of course it isn't a 67-72 (its a '96 Chevy Caprice 9C1 police car), but there just seems to be something about working on the car that has to have the work. It just isn't fun. Plus its the car you have to drive to work too . My poor daily has a massive laundry list of problems, and something else quits or needs work nearly every week. Back when I was a professional mechanic, I felt the same way about working on any vehicle after work. It just wasn't fun, it was work. I wish I could be more help, but when it comes to the project car/truck I wish I had more time to work on it. Wait I just had an epiphany.....working on the daily means not working on the project ......
I guess what motivates my on the project is how I have something I made with my own hands when I am done. And I know how everyone likes pics.... Here is my fleet right now: '96 Caprice 9C1 '78 Caprice Coupe (My first Car) '67 C10 '72 Riviera...Work in progress Last edited by 78bronzechariot; 02-24-2011 at 04:04 AM. |

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
I have lost count of the number of trucks and cars I've built. Generally, it's about 1 a year. My motivation comes from the desire to push my skill set. I don't really care about old trucks as much as I like to polish my skills and abilities by learning new things.
I get up at 4 am every morning at the latest (sometimes 3am) and give it hell until the sun sets that evening about 20 days per month. The other 10 days a month I have to work at my paying job.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
Prescription "happy pills"
I had a beautiful low mileage 72 C-10 when I was in/just out of high school that I foolishly sold. Ive always wanted that truck back but who knows where it is by now and to buy another in that same condition isnt financialy possible. Sooooooooo Im doing the next best thing. Rebuilding a fixer-upper. My motivation is that old 72 |

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
My motivation is seeing my dads eyes when I cruise up in the truck I bought from him and seeing his eyes light up at the latest work I have done to it. Really for me it's all about being able to step back and love what I see and being able to enjoy every little thing that I do on my truck. Driving my truck to work and having people either talk $h:" or drool over my truck is alot of fun A's well, army guys are kinda hard on each other lol. Hope you find your motivator and get your projects done!

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
it's hard when you work on cars 10 hours a day at your job to come home and work on the truck- usually I go in spurts- I put the whole truck together in its first "phase" in about 4 months...and it's sat for probably 6 months without me touching it at all til last week. I have a bunch of new parts I need to get out there and install...

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
I have similar issues with motivation. What I have come up with is a list of things to be done along with a parts list.Every day [almost] I try to do something on this list.It helps to have some focus and not get lost in all of the things that need doing. My 65[in my avatar]was started on in nov. and my completion date is by april 1[gonna make the round up in it].The list method really helps me.I carry my list in my Iphone so I have access all the time.
Good luck,Dan

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
My Father... The best times of my life growing up were spent in or around that old 71 Chevy truck. I can't tell you how many miles I drove that thing around the farm, how many donuts I cut out in the pasture and just how much everything revolved around that truck from feeding the cattle to hauling stuff from the feed store.. you know, what they were designed to do.... I was 9 or 10 at the time and the truck was only 4 years old.. and here we call them old trucks.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
Well what keeps me motivated on these old pickups is that this life sucks and everything else is ugly. Nothings beats building a 72 and Older chevy/gmc truck. They to me represents freedom and on the road tough and strong. They are for real men not for the weak at heart. Most people like the pretty lil 57 belairs or the impalas. But Like i said 1972 and Older is the way to go CHEVROLET/GMC PICKUP TRUCK C10,c20...All of them..

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
For some add reason, jamming to AC/DC gets me motivated real well!
Also for being different in my area and knowing there are no there kids in highschool that do it. And finally, seeing the face on my dad after a good day of work. |

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
What motivates you do anything that you like? It's that "feel good" that comes from seeing what you have when you have done something well. It doesn't matter what it is that you are doing, if you do it right, and it looks good, it increases your motivation to do it some more.
For me, it's the feeling I had the last time I drove my truck....back in Oct. 07. It's the sound of the pipes as I lay into it. It's the feeling as I drive it down the road. It's the nods that it gets, and the smiles on the faces of those who appreciate it like I do. But, now it's in pieces....lots of them. The cab is here; the bed is there; the chassis is somewhere else. So, that's the motivation for now...to get all of the pieces looking good, and in one place and altogether so I can drive it again before I die. With my son, we are working together to get it done. And, having him around to help, also motivates me.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
Warm weather. I HATE working in the cold. As soon as spring starts to hit I get the bug again. It dies when the cold rolls around again... so with the winter time off, I have that "drive" again every spring.
My house is proof. I had a ton of interior work lined up for the winter, hardly did a lick of it. It's been in the 60s/70s the past few weeks (unusually warm for this time of year) and I've gotten more done in the past few weeks than I have all winter.

Re: What gets you motivated and/or keeps you motivated???
Funny that this posting came up. I've been thinking the same thing lately. Got my 68 longhorn in the garage I haven't touched in almost 3 years. Have a GMC flatbed in the driveway that needs an engine. Have my 68 chevy driver. Absolutely no time to work on them with the way things are going on around the house. Anybody want to buy a longhorn that needs the interior finished? Decided to keep the flatbed only. When the flatbed is done and running the 68 driver will be sold. That will get me down to 1 truck, my subaru and my 4x4 tow truck, plus my wifes subaru.
Edit, gonna also be selling all the extras that have been piling up over the years. Will have to go thru it all after it stops snowing Last edited by kwmech; 02-24-2011 at 11:55 PM. |
