do i need cats

90 silverado. tired old 350 wanted to run some straight straight pipes. i told the kid i didnt know if the engine would run right. he said he'd come back in the morning before school. can i straight pipe his truck or does it need the catylitic converters.

If you have emissions testing in your state. You bet. They are required by law.

You don't have any O2 sensors behind the cat like the '96+ OBD-II trucks do, so running without a cat won't make your truck run badly or anything. If you want/can do it, go for it.

emissions isnt required where the vehicle is registered. just didnt know if there were O2 sensors behind them. thanks guys.

Nope. Only '96+ trucks with OBD-II have the sensors after the cats.
