Dual tank problems

When I switch to r/s tank truck shuts off just bought truck so I am clueless as to what has been done underneath truck what could it be truck is 1988 GMC 3500

Get a friend to help you out, and one of you needs to get under the truck on the passenger side and listen for the switching valve to move. That is where I would start anyway.

I know this is a dumb question, but is there fuel in the right side tank? If it cuts off , the switching valve is probably working.
