Door Panel Interchangeability 67-72

Have a great set of door panels from my '68 and was hoping to use them on my recently purchased '72. Are these interchangeable? Size seems to be the same, is mounting different, I know my '68's screwed in and 72's have push in clips is there a way to convert the 72 to accept a screw? Anyone else done this? Thanks for the help as always...

Wes at classic heartbeat has these capture nuts that are used in doors ,if they will work in the 72 door clip holes. I think this size nut fits the armrest and door panel holes.

Re: Door Panel Interchangeability 67-72

Hi Adam,

The plastic door panels in my 72 were in pretty rough shape so I swapped in a set of metal panels from a 71 parts truck.

I used some 1/4-20 nut inserts similar to the ones shown in this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=448116
to convert the lower 4 holes over to accept the mounting screws. I can't remember if they ended up being in the same locations as the holes for the 72 push-in retainers or not. I think I might have had to drill some new holes.

And as 67swb72klb pointed out, the 72 regulator stems are longer for the plastic door panels. So I used the regulators out of the 71 parts truck.

Re: Door Panel Interchangeability 67-72

I have a good set of green 72 door panels you can have for free if you come down to the Fallbrook area (I'm on Camp Pendleton).

(Not for sale in this thread, giving for free as they're taking up room in my burb)

I only have the front set, they're left over from when I first got my 70 GMC. I'll grab some pics in the morning when I clean out the burb and shoot you an email.

I was in the Fallbrock area for quite a few years, my Pops still lives north of town. You probably have seen him driving around in his 69 GTO or my old black 74 C10 stepside.

Re: Door Panel Interchangeability 67-72

Here are the pics of the panels. They just need a good cleaning and they have a very slight bow to them. Setting them in the sun on a flat surface should take care of it. If you want them just let me know a time that you want to come down. I'm headed to Afghanistan in a few weeks but I'm available most nights.

Andrew.
