Re: CA online dmv accurate?

Are you a AAA member? If so, go in to their office have them figure it out for ya.

As for the DMV website, they probably are not accounting for your non op status.

It's worth the 50 bucks or so to join AAA and have them help you with it. It doesn't sound right. I would not want to deal with the DMV; you need to get shots just to go down there anymore, it's gotten so bad.

Welcome to the "Golden State" They didn't derive that name for nuthin'
Sounds wrong to me, bro. If the non-ops are current you will nor incurr ant "back" fees as long as you have been the owner...unles something has changed recently. Dunno.

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

Not trying to steal this thread, but I have a question for you guys about the registration price for our trucks. I paid $115.00 last year to register it (what the ****) the year before it was like 40 something. So My question is what are all of you paying and is it just me thats getting ripped off? Being that Cali is broke as well as wanting to get out of the DMV ASAP I just paid and did not argue

Breakdown of my current renewal notice (due next month):

Registration $57, License fee $9, Weight fee (4001-5000#) $80, County/District fees $9.... for a grand total of $155.

It has been steadily climbing since it bottomed out at $49 several years ago.

Sounds to me like the vehicle was not non-opped...at least according to the DMV records. Do you have the paperwork from 3 years ago, showing that you non-opped it?

$155 wow! I guess one day we will all be paying that, if not more, but to drive my truck I'd pay much more, just don't tell anyone at DMV.

Sounds crazy...have you been paying the non-op for the past 3 years? When I bought my Blazer in July of last year, the DMV online quote was exactly what it was when I went in to do the transfer. I hope for your sake there is a problem.

I paid $10 to non-op my 69 CJ-5 in 2002. Every year, the DMV sends me a renewal (just got one last week, in fact), stating that it is $42 to re-register. It also states that if I plan to continue the Non-Op, I pay NOTHING. What's the deal with paying non-op fees?
Has there been a change in the rules???

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

Hope you have your non-op receipt. If not you may be screwed. Just go to the DMV and get it squared away. Just for reference the latest fees for my 72: 56 reg fee, 10 lic fee, 24 wieght fee, 10 county fee, total $100. Climbs every year.

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

the funny thing is, when i bought the truck i had a similar problem with the dmv. went in to transfer and place on non op, i was told there were astronomical fees owed? i proved that the fees had been previously paid and was on a current non op. they charged me $60 for the transfer and non-op. i have proof of that somewhere? but on my title it also shows the transfer date and fees of $60 paid.

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

I was paying $136.00 here in the "Golden State" for my '72. It has been continually creeping up since I bought it 15 years ago. Two years ago I said "F.U. California" and I now register it in Texas (because I am a home and property owner) so when I go there on vacation every year I just get my window stickers and I'm good for another year. I pre-paid the stickers for 3 years too!
$73.00 is cheaper...just about half!

Gotta love the Lone Star State

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

I was seeing this thread in the morning and was scared with all fees, then decided to go my DMV office and I feel good after paying just $78 for all.

Find that "proof" you had before of back fees already paid. You may be getting hit with the back fees and penalties required to put it on the road, and those fees may not be due if it's registered non-op. Just a guess. Good luck!

Re: CA online dmv accurate?

Several of you guys have some light-weight trucks, or are cheating (shhhhhh) on the weight fees..... or are running non-commercial plates.

My weight fee alone is more than some of your out-the-door total costs!
