another trans question

i have a 1994 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 i lost OD yesterday going down the turnpike and the shift from 1st to second is a hard shift i have to get it up to 20 then completely let off for it to take second gear. i know that the tranny needs to be completely rebuilt but cant afford that at the moment. I have my eyes set on a 5 speed with granny low at the local junkyard with everything i need to swap it over and i mean everything to swap it over. now which would be the best thing to do try and find a used 4l60e or just go with the 5 speed. and how much longer do you guys think i got left with the tranny now before it is completely toast? is has 235,000 on it and its original.

Re: another trans question

in my opinion i would try to find another 4l60e. but im also the person that likes an automatic. if you like to shift all the time then go for the 5 speed but itll take some work to get everything where it needs to be. i think. youll also need the driveshaft. maybe the t case might be a good idea if has lower miles so you dont have to fix it later. youknow what i mean. not 100 percent on all that just spitballing what i think.

Re: another trans question

i agree i like the auto but there are a lot of problems with the 4l60e plus i plow with the truck its in, i do redneck truck pulling durning the summer, i tow with the truck usually a 20 foot car trailer with some decent weight on it and i like to play in the mud thats why i was thinking 5 speed because then i don't have to worry about burning up another tannny because 5 speeds hold up better when working. I know the driveshafts are the the because i have the driveshaft from the truck the tranny is in in my truck because when i blew my rear end it broke the aluminum driveshaft. so its still up in the air i guess.
