Difference Between C-10 And K-10 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I HAVE A 1972 C-10 SWB 4X4 FLEETSIDE. JUST GOT THE TRUCK RECENTLY SO I AM STILL LEARNING ALL OF THE PROPER TERMINOLOGY. I AM CURIOUS WHY SOME FOLKS CALL THERE TRUCK A K10 AND OTHER A C10 WHILE THEY ARE BOTH 4X4'S. MY VIN STARTS WITH THE LETTERS CK, AND I HAVE LOOKED IT UP , IT WAS MADE IN ST. LOUIS AND IS A FACTORY 4X4. JUST CURIOUS WHAT THE DIFFERENCE MIGHT BE IN THE K SERIES AND C SERIES.
I KNOW THAT THE BLAZERS ARE K SERIES, JUST WASN'T SURE.

C= 2x4
K= 4x4

That is true, a c-10 is a 1/2 ton 2wd while a k-10 is a 1/2 4x4. Check your vin on door or door post, if v8 4x4 cke and if inline 6 cks are first three letters. Same for 2wd cce for v8 and ccs for inline six. Hooe this helps and hope you find the K in the vin.

The catch is, even the 2 wheel drive blazers got K/5 badging.
The first C in the 72 Vin denotes Chevrolet. You probably notced most VIN decoders do not reflect this.

Post the vin and someone can decipher it for you.
There are a lot of converted trucks out there.
If there is a K in the first of you vin then it is probably original.
Here is a 67 vin

It's basically because only the Blazer had a "k" emblem. The non-cst/custom pickups had a c/10, c/20, c/30 badge regardless of wether or not they were 4-wheel drive. People either don't know or get confused.

It's like racedvl said, c=2 wheel drive, K=four wheel drive. Period. There is no such thing as a c10 four wheel drive, and there is no such thing as a K10 two wheel drive. It's also a nice 'red flag' to look for when you are buying one. If it's a 4 wheel drive and the vin is CEwhatever (or CCEwhatever for '72), then you know instantly that something has been changed (like the cab, or vin, or someone attempted a 4 wheel drive conversion).

C= Chevrolet (this first C started in '72)
K=4 wheel drive
E=8 cylinder
1= 1/2 ton
4= pickup
2=1972
S = Made at the St Louis, MO plant
1= a number all the plants used in this spot in '72
90912 = 90,912th vehicle made at this plant

If you want to make sure it's an original short bed, look at the model code in the glovebox. It should be KE10734. That means:
K=4 wheel drive
E=Eight Cyl
10 = 1/2 ton
7 = short bed
34 = fleetside pickup
