Mpg ?
Does anyone know the mpg on a 1971 C20 LWB 396cu in automatic tranny. I am trying to figure the fuel cost on a long highway trip home if I buy it!

Re: Mpg ?
Hey fellow Nutmegger!
Where's the truck at? I think you'll typically expect 10-12, depending on your rear gears. Sounds like you've probably got 4:11's.

Re: Mpg ?
10 to 12 is a good number to assume on all the 2 wheel drive trucks. Assuming they are running on all 8 that is.
Anything better is awesome, and anything less means you should figure out whats wrong (assuming a stock motor) |

Re: Mpg ?
I had a '72 C-20 with a 350, 4 speed, 4.11 rear and stock tires and all it normally got was 10 mpg. That was way back when gasoline prices were low.

Re: Mpg ?
just figure you need to stop every 150-175miles and put in $70-$80 gas each time

Re: Mpg ?
It'll be better after you get it home and don't have to drive it, except when you want to...Maybe the seller will front you a tank (or 2) of gas money. Oh, let him call it a rebate....He's gonna want to sell it to keep from having to put gas in it, so it's a win-win deal.

Re: Mpg ?
I drove my 69 c10 170 miles and got 17 to the gallon! I drove 63 mph most of the way. I have a 307 with 3:08's. I felt pretty proud!

Re: Mpg ?
I'm planning on flying to southern cali and hoping to buy/drive back a 67-72 (not picky on anything but a good runner and fairly solid cab) and am going to budget for around 8. I guess anything more than that and I'll be able to get a better meal at the end of the days of driving... so somewhere around $1100 for fuel one way.... I guess I'll make sure those tires are well inflated before I leave!
