Seperntine Belt Kit
I just recently bought a serpentine belt kit for my 67 GMC pickup and none of the bolt holes in the brackets for the A/C and alt have been drilled in my heads. I am very lery of drilling and tapping them out. Would the four bolts that hold the two brackets in the Water pump be sufficent. I looked at this post in the FAQ's but only found one post about tapping a drilling one bolt hole. Any suggestion here would be great.

Re: Seperntine Belt Kit
I would not drill the heads. To much can go wrong from mis alignment, punch through, cracking, etc. Also the heads with factory holes have bosses so you would have to make shims for proper alignment. Would be easy and fairly inexpensive to do a head swap. You should be able to get a set of ready to bolt on heads from your local machine shop for a few hundred dollars.

Re: Seperntine Belt Kit
I've seen serp setups that just bolt to the waterpump bolts.
do not drill and tap your heads!

Re: Seperntine Belt Kit
The kit did come with some bracket from GM that go down and attached to the end of the header bolts, so it is not just bolts near the water pump. These brackets seem to give it more stablity. I was thinking of making a braket that would use the current bolt hole locations and would tie the two bracket together over the water pump. Think that is nessacary? Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Seperntine Belt Kit
so i am understanding you bought an aftermarket serp kit? There are a couple different factory designs available on v8 and v6 built in the 90s. My factory serp kit bolts to the heads also but i think there are others that bolt into the block and use the water pump bolts too

Re: Seperntine Belt Kit
I bought the kit From Jeg's and the bottom of the brackets bolt below the water pump not using the waterpump holes, mis spoke when I typed it up. I forgot i dont really want to swap the heads since I just had them polished an ported when doing a rebuild, maybe in a few years.

Re: Seperntine Belt Kit
I installed a serpentine setup from a 1999 4.3 liter V6 Chevy truck onto my Gen 1 small block with minimum modifications. The installation included a high amp alternator, air conditioning compressor, PS pump and the V6 water pump. To use the reverse rotation water pump, I had to drill out the bottom passenger side bypass hole and tap it to put in a 1/4 pipe plug. This was a very cheap upgrade for me as I already had the wrecked 99 Chevy. Attached are a few pictures of the installation. You can use the passenger side bracket as a template to find where the extra hole gets tapped.Your brackets may be a little different but they all bolt up in the same place. When drilling the passenger side head, just make sure you barely miss the intake manifold bolt hole. Make sure the tapped hole is on a flat bossed surface. The passenger side bracket has 3 mounting holes in it, but you can get by with 2.
