Thinking about swapping out the old th350 for a 700r4. A guy 100 miles from me has one for sale for $75 so i cant really pass it up. Either i rebuild the th350 or the 700r4 and the 700 is better on fuel and has a lower first ratio too.
My question is other than the cross member and diriveshaft what do i need to do and how much does it cost. I know ill need a conversion thing for the lockup and TV cable. But any help is appreciated.

There is a bunch of stuff on this site about your needs. If you look for my posts, you will see what I have done. The 700 is a big positive for your ride. What engine and what kind of carb do you have? The crossmember will have to be moved, I used a Lokar cable and their bracket at the carb. very easy to adjust, and MUST be level to get the correct geometry. When I do these conversions, It usually takes me 2 or 3 road tests to get the TV cable adjustment the way I think it should be. An allen wrench, pair of pliers, and maybe a small needle nose vise grips. Drive it a few miles, adjust, do it again if needed. HTH

I use this calble
GM 700-R4 KD-2700HT
this bracket SRK-4000

tried to copy a picture from Lokar, and can' do it!! If you go to their site, and search for a bracket SRK-4000, there will be a picture of what I end up with
If you ride has a steel rod for carb linkage, the rod will work. Make sure that the TV cable is level to get the correct geometry.

I have a hopped up 350 with a q jet carb. I also have the steel rod instead of a cable for the throttle.

www.bowtieoverdrives.com read up on on how to do it properly. I highly recomend there kits... it's spendy, but you'll only have to do it once. If you don't get it right the first time, then you get to do it again with another tranny or after a rebuild. They'll feel fine and then be junk after a few thousand miles.
