Check out this Burb on CraigsList

As you Burb folks are aware I'm looking for the right Burb and came across this one and its within driving range of here. At first glance the granny 4 speed turned me off but then thought if I yanked the Granny stick and installed a Tremec 5 speed I'd have real cool cruiser and that is what I want. Do you guys/gals think the price is a tad high cause of the 4 speed?

Re: Check out this Burb on CraigsList

Doesn't look to bad of a prices if it's all original for the most part and original owner and has no rust issues. If it's in as good of condition as the pics make it out to be, then that's a great burb. Price wise..well if it's that good, then the price could be right. If there's hidden bondo etc then it's a bad price. Personally I like the 4spd. It's a fun trans lol But a T5 or even a T6 would be great behind the 350.

The price isn't bad if it's a rock solid body. If there is any rust I think it's a tad high.

X2

If the paint is the original on the outside, that to me would be a bonus as well. Since you will have a better idea as to how solid the body is.

X2 x 2. A little suspect that they don't mention body or rust in the ad. Does look sweet in the photo. That's a lot of stick on that shift - but would be cool in its own way.

I hope the owner contacts me soon as I'd like to see more detailed pics and a shot of the Spid, which should still be there.

Re: Check out this Burb on CraigsList

Now for the "Paul Harvey", the rest of the story. The man bought the Burb new. Like you I thought the truck had factory A/C and the compressor was upgraded to a new one, not so. He had the A/c added when the Burb was few years old and he said the package came from a place in Texas. In 1993 when the Burb had 200,000 miles on it he had it painted and the engine redone and says he hasn't put a lot of miles since. He didn't send a pic of the spid but sent a copy of the original equipment list. I was hoping the rear end ratio would be on the equipment list but it isn't so can anyone tell me what rear end gears are in this Burb. I think his price is way high and offered the guy 5000.00 for it but he wants to wait and see.

Re: Check out this Burb on CraigsList

Hmm C10 burb with a 4 speed, I'd guess that the gears are 3.73 or 4.11

Was the interior painted as well, and did he paint it the original color?
Did he talk about and collision history, or rusty panel issues that were addressed before paint?

Now that I am staring at that AC compressor, I can see a portion of the engine bracket it is mounted to. It looks like what mine had when it had the old aftermarket ARA AC unit, that used for a compressor that giant York unit.
So he upgraded the compressor, and changed the freon type to a type of refrigerant to something any shop can service?

Re: Check out this Burb on CraigsList

It looks good to me and its pretty much done if there isnt any rust issues hiding. I would offer 7500+ and go get it. You wont find one better without dumping 7K minimum to make it look that good. Only thing I see that it needs is an Automatic, Tilt and maybe some newer wheels.......

You can get one cheaper but unless your are a Body, paint, mechanic all wrapped in one you probably wont find a better looking one.....

Re: Check out this Burb on CraigsList

3.07 gears as original
the carpeting was swapped out with reproduction at some point. Notice the wheel tubs are covered and it is all faded bad, probably ACC carpeting.
72 would have a/c like a pickup with the dash controls and dash vents, plus a huge thing in the back. Would be interresting to convert to stock a/c, real expensive and hard to locate all the parts for a one year only setup. If the a/c in the burb isn't too ugly, I'd call it a wash. Not original, looks a tic out of place, but you have working a/c.
The repaint and no comments of rust repair does kinda raise a flag for me. Plus I honestly kinda question someone who would do paint and body and rebuild the engine, and then just put it away.
All that being said, if you have the coin, take a road trip and go check it out. This could be a cream puff too good to be true burb.
It's easier to talk the price down after spending a couple hrs looking at it. When someone calls and tries lowballing me over the phone when never seeing the vehicle, it kinda ticks me off to no end.
