Distributor Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I know the engine guys will know this stuff, but I'm asking here first. I'm swapping dizzy's to get HEI and noticed the ring on the shaft of the old 283 dizzy. It appears to be about the level of the lifter valley. In the pic the tape measure is pointing at the ring. The HEI does not have this feature.

Is this a problem? It appears to not have any function other than oil restriction? Don't know........chime in if you know. Thanx guys.

I`m running the same HEI, no problem, been in for two years...

no problems swapping the two! just a casting difference!
