Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
So I decided to tackle the rear suspension and rear diff install. I built a 9" 4.56gears and a detroit and narrowed it about 10" to be 54" total width and I am going to run a 29x15x15 mickey thompson sportsman s/r on a 13" wide rally for the deep dish look and so I can retain my rings and center caps. Here are a few pics with my homemade 1" longer trailing arms, I built a 2" drop into the arms aswell. I need to do a c-notch still and install the rear swaybar.Im having a blast building this up more with some custom homemade parts.

Re: Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
intrested too??
in my build theres (pics) a place that I had mine cut and widened to 13" cost me $50 a piece they can do any off set or widen them any way you want..I have M/T's with no tubes ( there a secret to that that I'll share if needed) and they don't loose any air, I run about 12 lbs in each to keep them flat and even

Re: Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
Talked to a wheel company down in cali called early wheel and they can put the rally centers into their hoops and build me the custom width and backspace I need for like $125 a wheel. Definatly not the $50 you paid but I dont mind paying, they look like a quality company with a quality product. Here is a pic of the 9", I was originally going to run the 18" wide sportsmans but had a change of plans

Re: Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
Still your going to save some on shipping so thats still a good deal..and the wheels will be new..ask them about powder coating them as long as there bare it should be cheap to do...
I run the 15" or 18" M/Ts what ever I can buy cheap they dont last very long and I burn a set and a half off over the summer (in about 9 months) they handle crappy so I'm keeping my eyes open for the new radials that are the same size If you look at my build you'll see how I cut the bed and tubbed it might help?? but I will say trim it to the frame and your going to need to add 3/4" to 1" more back spacing ON A STOCK WIDTH AXLE to stop the rub on the inside of the body running the 29" tire will help (I'm running 31") Last edited by Hottrucks; 03-06-2011 at 07:20 PM. |

Re: Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
I already did the mini tub when I first built the rig, about 5" both side so I have plenty of room. Got the 9" installed with the new trailing arms and now I have to build a new panhard bar and mounts.

Re: Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
Plus a few more of the panhard bar, I tried to make it as long and level as possible at ride height so suspension geometry change is minimal. I should have wheels next week, tires are here, driveline done, need to swap porportioning valve and run brakelines. Just a few things left

Re: Custom rear 9" and trailing arms install
Finally got it done enough to move under its own power to turn it around to make it easier to work on

Sure are a lot of us with WA plates. Kudos to the rear suspension, that setup looks great!
