Front brakes for 60-66 C10 truck

I have been researching the problem with 6 lug configuration. I don't want to spend $1000. on that upgrade. I think there might be a solution with machining a new hub and keeping the same offsets as the rotars with hubs originally came on the older disc brakes on a older truck 5 lug pattern. I got my spindles and calipers off an 1974 GMC truck. Ball joints are the same the only thing I saw different was the inner tie rod ends. You will need to get master brake cylinder and proporsional valve. The new hub would use the rotor off the newer 2wd trucks or off the 4 wheel drive trucks. There the cost would be very minimal. It would be drilled with the 7/16 studs so it matches your back studs. This is a true junkyard retrofit that everybody might be looking for. Do you think there would be a market for this upgrade. Please give me some feed back on your thoughts of this.

Or grab the entire front cross member from an 67-86 complete with master, booster, prop valve, lines and all.
The cost goes up when they all start buying into drop spindles, a lot of the time you can get the entire front crossmember for about $200 average.

Problem is the 6 lug pattern.Thats one of the issues that Im trying to figure out. The other idea is weld up a 5 lug rotor with hub and redrill with the 6 lug pattern. Only problem with that is there replacements unless you make more of them. If you are keeping the same offset but using an different hub to fit those with the combination with spacer I think you can acheive what you need. Dimensions on the standard 5 lug from the top plate down 2 7/8" the standard 6 lug rotor 2 5/16" with 5/8" front spacer to acheive the 2 7/8". You can buy those rotors for $29. at napa.

Post #16 in the link posted above by Rich 5150 69 tells you exactly how to have 6 lug front disc brakes by using factory type parts that can be purchased at any auto parts supplier. The total cost involved, as always, depends on how resourceful you are.

I think you will find that some vendors make a 6 lug drop spindle for the older 64-66 front end. this of course does not solve the problem of the disc brake parts. I just went thru this conversion and I used the 2wd front end from a 91 1/2 ton burb....ended up 5 X 5 lug, wish I had stayed with 6 lug.....will not make that mistake again.....Kieth
