Katrina/10
This truck was given to me by a friend 5 years ago who lost everything he had in Hurricane Katrina. The truck was completely submerged in seawater for 7 hours, then left sitting outside for a month. He was going to send it to the crusher, but I just couldn't let that happen.
It was a complete 71 short step with 250/Powerglide. The body was dissolved by rust, but I kept the frame and all the reusable parts in the cab. I replaced the cab with a good 69, put in an 87 TBI 350/700, and got it running again. I have enough parts to put the truck back together, one piece at a time. I have found a lot of useful information on this board, and hope to be able to contribute some also. I have several other old trucks too. Thanks, Gary Last edited by Katrina/10; 03-07-2011 at 10:41 PM. |

Hey man, you need to meet Bill (palf70step) and Ed(edb), they're both in Gulfport. Ed has a shop that I dream of owning one like it one day. BTW I'm up 'round Hattiesburg and there're some good guys in the Jackson area.

Re: Katrina/10
Thanks, the Laguna is a 75, drive it to work all the time. A very cool car I think, but nobody else has one or knows what it is. Except for a few, that is.

Re: Katrina/10
Like to see some pic's of that Laguna, always loved them, have not seen one in years, don't they have seats that swivel or something? I had a buddy that had one many many moons ago , I think it was an S3 or something like that. Nice save on the truck by the way looks sweet.

Re: Katrina/10
Got the Frankenfender, hood, and grille put on. Everything lined up really well, but I found I don't have the center grille support. The hood and grille are 71, fenders and core support 69. Looks more like a truck now!

Re: Katrina/10
Thanks! Someday it will be a whole truck again. I am working on the cowl panel now, it will be the next thing to go back on, then the cab will be assembled!

Re: Katrina/10
My cab is stalled, waiting on some corners and rockers to be installed. It's always good to save 'em from the crusher.
As for the Laguna....it's one of those cars from the mid-Seventies that some people just don't appreciate. That era was an awkward one for the industry. Making the transition from musclecars to economy cars really sucked, if you lived through it. We went from having it all in 1970, to wishing for the "good old days" and not getting any real relief until GM and FoMoCo got back into the performance game in the mid-Eighties. Keep it up. You're doing good.

Re: Katrina/10
Those Laguna's are getting more popular and I like them anyway. They are now being welcomed into the ACES'(American Chevelle Enthuisiast's Society) family by the founder of our club Chuck Hanson who just happens to own two very nice examples of the Laguna's .I think they are finally going to get the respect they deserved all along .
