64 long n low build thread
Well, I have been watching this site from a distance for a long time now. 2 years in fact. It is now time for me to sign up and show some pics.
So...what i've got is a 64 lwb 1/2ton that I got when I was 15. It is a 6 banger, something I always wanted to change, but couldn't afford to. Now I am 35 and have 4 kids...so I am still broke, but I am going forward with this build. I am using craigslist for alot of my funding. gotta love craigslist!!! Here are my plans. Things I have: 5 lug front conversion from an 1987 chevy 5 lug rear end from a 1971 chevy non posi Tilt steering column from 87 chevy Jeep sprinps for the rear bolt in c notch....almost installed gmc grill...I love this grill double hump hood from a 1961 chevy...I love these hoods!!! Things to get: 350 from a late chevy 5 speed trany from same truck 3 inch drop spindles Anyhow I am having a lot of fun work on the beast. It is great reading everyones info. I have learned alot from this site. THANKS TO ALL!!!!! Will post pics soon!

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Nice truck and good luck on the build. The build part is fun, but driving an old truck is good for your soul.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Ok. I knew I would take some heat for one. That was back in 2007 when I was brainwashed by my F@RD friends. I dont own that jacket anymore. It was donated to my bronco buddy!
Hey, juanz1947 I pick my springs up for 20bucks on CL. Infact I got all four, even though I can't use the front springs. I have been reading on here that the jeep springs can lower from our trucks 3 to 4 inches. I am hoping for the 4. You don't need a C notch for that. I plan to put on 3inch drop blocks. That is why I need the C notch.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Actually, my next build is going to be a 1965 f@rd. It is currently rusting away at my dad's old place. If I can persuad him to give it up, I will have it be a father son project with my 10year old son.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Ok, so here is my progress. After I got the truck in 2007, I used it like a truck should be used. I moved a lot of dirt and mulch, and a lot of trips to hm depo. It was very hard to start taking it down to the frame, knowing it will sit in the garage for a long time like this.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Here are some shots of just the frame. I am standblasting all the rust off. Man, this is going to take forever.
I built a make shift room in my driveway out of 3/4" pvc pipe. It is 8' tall and 10' X 10'. I hung painters plastic, works great for keeping the blasting media off the neighbors house. So I figured the blasting would be a two weekend job, but seems more like 4 to 6.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Dble Hump from Texas. I like your truck and it looks like you were having a blast driving around in it.
Could you post some pictures of your seat cover? I know it is a strange request but I have one similar but in blue. I would like to see the pattern a little better as mine has faded quite a bit. Looks like you have made some progress. Keep up the good work!! Good luck! Keith |

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Hey lil Hoodlum, Here are some pics, let me know if they are not close enough...so I am guessing that my seat cover is factory. I always assumed it was not.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
You're doing a good job on the blasting on the frame. Yeah those small blasters take a long time to get something done. Be sure you wear a respirator while you are blasting and even during cleanup afterwards. Silica sand dust is especially dangerous to breathe.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
I'm not sure if it was factory or not. I actually pulled the seat out of a 1967 GMC 1/2 ton two wheel drive. I would really like to be able to replace the seat cover with the same pattern. I posted on the 67-72 asking if anyone knew anything about the pattern. The thought had occured to me before that the seat could have simply been replaced at some point or another seat cover (non stock) may have been put on.
I am pretty sure the bench seats are all the same 1960-1972. Anyways, thank you for the response back! Hopefully someone might know something of this pattern. BTW I like and prefer the double hump hood as well!! Good luck! Keith |

Re: 64 long n low build thread
So today I decided to make myself a rotisserie. I have two engine stands sittin around so I bought $12 worth of lag bolts and bam, I can spin my frame around. This should be life a little easier with the sand blasting.
I am wearing face and eye protection....I researched the silica disease a few years back...that is actually why it has taken me so long to strart this part of the project. All I can think about is getting that stuff in my lungs when I am blasting the frame. I am using black diamond which says contains less then 2% silica. I should be ok, but the concern is still there.

Re: 64 long n low build thread
Well, I have not touched my truck in awhile, but I did buy a 1960's vintage police spot light off of CL. I know I am no where near putting it on...but I couldn't pass it up for only $30. It is so awesome. I will try to post pics tonight!
