67 Custom Camper

Hi I'm new here. This is my 1st Chevy truck she needs allot of work to undo all of the bad work that has been done over the years. I'm in the process of installing a Painless 18 circuit wiring harness. The running boards will go as soon as I get my hands on a body grinder. Pardon me for being naive but can someone tell me the difference between the C10-20-30 and my truck the Custom Camper Thanks

Welcome, you have a neat truck. The c10 is 1/2 ton, C20 is 3/4 and C30 is one ton. Your custom camper was an option with special suspension and wiring for people that wanted to add a camper.
Hope that helps Paul

C-10 1/2 Ton, C-20 3/4 Ton, C-30 1 Ton

I think the "Camper" models probably had
beefier suspension, etc. Not sure if it
included an appearance package mixed in.

Great looking truck and

hahaha!! I'm one Slowwww typer!

Re: 67 Custom Camper

Welcome from Back East!!

In 67 & 68 the Custom Camper badge has no series designation (10,20,30),just says Custom Camper. So,nowhere on your truck does it indicate the series. But yours is a C/20. The third digit in your VIN will be a 2 for 20 series. A C/10 would have 6-lugs in 67-70 and 5 in 71 & 72. All C/20s had 8-lug,as did all C/30s. But C/30 single & dual wheel only came in longer wheelbases than 10s & 20s,requiring longer beds. So,if it has an 8' bed it won't be a C/30.
The Custom Camper option could be had on any trim level.

Re: 67 Custom Camper

custom camper had either HD springs, or overloads, HD tires, HD shocks, a front sway bar, and that's it. No big mirrors, no HD cooling, no tow hitch, no camper harness. All that was optional on top of the package.

Re: 67 Custom Camper

We can tell you more about the vehicle if you take a photo of your "SPID" (service parts indentification decal). Hooks and gas tanks doors on bed are evidence it was definately used as a camper.

brim nice truck the hub caps you have are for 69 72's, all the knobs look to be correct 67 knobs, and the door panels look original, the wing windows so i would hold onto those

Re: 67 Custom Camper

Your original exterior paint code 521 was White. Interesting rear suspension and axle codes. Does it have standard coil rear suspension and round rear axle housing? The gear vendors overdrive is a nice addition to a '67 3/4 ton that came standard with a 4.57 axle ratio.

That must be what the red knob is on the side of the shift lever... Cool!

Clean truck.

Re: 67 Custom Camper

It has a multi leaf rear end. And as for the overdrive the PO said he put it in, I will post some pics of it if it ever stops raining. While putting in my Painless wiring harness I have moved the switch for the overdrive " the red thing on the shifter " to the hole were the manual choke went. Using a pull push switch with a windshield wiper knob.

Don't know about the rear end. The PO told me it has a 350 and as for the trans it has a turbo 400.

327 was offered all year long,as well as in prior years. The 327 was the optional V8,which is why it's listed on the SPID. The 283 was the standard V8,which is why it would not listed on a SPID. The "E" in the VIN and model number indicate a truck is a V8 model.

This is the overdrive that is in my truck. I'm sure it did not come with it by looking at installation.

Re: 67 Custom Camper

Very uncommon to have rear leaf springs on a 2WD '67 Chevy 3/4 ton. It looks like the leafs were special ordered from the factory, they were not a regular option on 2WD's 1/2 and 3/4 tons till '68. Is the rear end housing round (H052) or is it V shaped (Dana 60) ? Those Gear Vendors overdrives aren't cheap, they run a couple thousand when new.

Re: 67 Custom Camper

Optional HD coil, auxiliary,or leaf springs were minimum requirements for the Custom Camper option,so leafs are common on Custom Campers.
