Rare? Worth the asking price?

I don't hang out over here much but I thought I would ask you 60-66 guys if this is rare? The seller says it is and My impression is that it would be uncommon to find a factory 4WD. It is not mine and I am not interested in buying it. I am just curious if they are rare and if he is in the right price range for this vehicle, seems high to me. Maybe some of you experts can tell if this is a factory 4WD as well.

Also, he said it was a factory 6 cylinder. Could you get a 4WD with a V8 or did they all come with a 6?

Thanks!

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

the post says the engine is a 350 from a camaro, so we know the v8 is not stock, the truck looks pretty good, these burbs are hard to find not totally rusted out.....and the 4wd versions are less common. Kieth

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

I saw that in the ad. I was just wondering if a V8 was ever an option with 4WD or if they all came with 6 cylinder motors, as this one did originally.

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

It's hard to tell from just pictures, especially since it has been repainted.

The thing I find a bit strange is making such a big deal about the "factory" 4 wheel drive when the truck likely won't be appealing to a "restorer" since it isn't bone stock:
Dash is cut up for gauges,
Incorrect seats,
Incorrect motor,
electric fans
Nonetheless, still looks reasonably priced. But it needs to be gone over to see if it is full of body filler.

I am betting the next owner will probably bag and drop it and make a 2 wheel drive out of it anyways, so the 4x4 stuff probably won't matter anyways.

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

In my humble opinion this is overpriced. Don't get me wrong I love the 4X4 which is why I bought mine about two months ago. I did some serious searching and had to run from California to Oregon to get my 62 Suburban. The one I picked up had the same 2nd owner for the last 25 years. He kept it in great shape. Replaced the 283 with a 350 that only now has about 7,000 miles on it and had all the receipts and paperwork for the last 25 years totalling over $6500. It is totally complete including all 3 original bench seats. The front is recovered but the 2nd and 3rd need to be redone. The body is almost perfectly straight and only the tiniest bit of bubbling on the bottom of the doors. It has not been chopped up and I cruise it all the time.
The owner wanted $7000 and I got him down to $6500.
In my opinion after checking values I thought I got a good deal but you guys let me know. Just like everything else something is only as valuable as someone else is willing to pay.

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

Yours seems like a much better deal. I guess that answers the question that you could get a factory V8. Nice find and nice Suburban! I agree with you concerning the price, it seems high.

Beautiful truck man, looks great. You did good, real good.

The 60-63's with the wrap around windshield make it worth even more, IMO.

Thanks for posting!

That is an awesome Apache but why did he list it as a C-10?
I also think he is seriously looking for almost $50K!
Maybe I can sell him mine for hella cheap!

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

There's an aftermarket book that claims some production numbers, unless it's GM approuved information, you can't really take stock.

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

those nbrs seem to be within the specs that I have seen before. that is not all suburbans nor just 4 x 4's but 4 x 4s with barn doors only
it is like 4 x 4 panels; not many of them around either, but no matter how few are left, it isn't raising the value of them

yes . they did come with a 283, bit the I6 was more than likely more preferred for bush use. remember most of these trucks were not bought for highway use . most 4 x 4s now never seem to get off rhe pavement

Re: Rare? Worth the asking price?

I wondered if he was local. The KSL ad had a (208) number, but said Ontario, Idaho. Ontario is 45 minutes from here, but in Oregon. The Craigslist ad says Ontario, Oregon. For a little gas money I could make a road trip and give an honest opinion, if someone is seriously interested.
