Always Have An Extinguisher!!!

I tried going to work in the truck today. I just got my 275's for the rear last night and put on the new blue reverse lights (gotta show ya'll a picture of those...sweet.) Truck started fine and I made it about 1/8 mile, then the truck shut down. Lifted the hood to check the battery cables (been having probs.) and flames shot up. Probably a faulty wire combined with a cracked fuel line at the filter. Something fried and the truck tried to crank over again and again, feeding the fire. I finally pulled the battery cable, and thank God a water hose was nearby. I put the fire out before too much could get burned, but I need to replace alot of wires and possibly some springs and hoses... I don't know yet. I'm hoping my HEI Super Coil is salvagable. So much for the new pine bed kit I was gonna order.

P.S. If that hose had not been there, my whole truck would have gone up in flames! I didn't carry a fire extinguisher in the truck, but I'm getting TWO of them now! I would strongly recommend one to everyone. You never know when you might need one for your truck or someone elses!

I've been there before. My 74 K-5 Blazer went up in smoke as well but more damage than yours. It was like a scene from bnackdraft when I got engulffed in flames when the flames came out. Sold the blazer later and got the Tootsie Roll. I'm going to get couple extinguishers myself.

One note- Make sure they are made for gasoline fires!!! Some may not be as effective

Man, the thought of a fire on my truck gives me the creeps. Sorry to hear about your fire. Bummer.

Don't worry, I've got a fire extinguisher mounted right in front of my drivers seat. You'll not catch me without one. Got one in the shop too.

I keep one on the floor in my truck because I dont know where to mount it yet. They are $10 guys, go get one! I got one on the microwave, which may not be the best spot, but its close to the kitchen and the garage. Sorry to hear about your fire, but glad to hear you still have your truck.

I've never had an extinguisher around my house. Then for X-mas 2001, my GF's father got his son & me 2 small units each.

After leaving them in the entryway closet of the house for most of the year, I decided since I have them I might as well make sure their accessible & put one in the kitchen & the other in the garage.

The following weekend I decided to sell my little isuzu pick-up so I had to get it running. I had to pour a little gas down the carb to prime it. When starting, it backfired through the carb & ignited the gas. Luckily I had just put the extinguishers away so I knew exactly where they were & was able to put out the flames before any damage resulted.

I went out that same day & bought extinguishers to keep in each truck I drive. After cleaning all the dust off the engine compartment, I sold that little isuzu for a 1000 bucks . . .... instead of hauling off a burned out shell.
