rear end with disks
I've got a 52 with a s10 frame. I like the idea of disks in the back. I'm thinking a zr2 might be to wide. What other options are there?

Re: rear end with disks
You can look at the Explorer or Mountaineer 1995 on up. They have factory disk brakes and I'm not totally sure of the width measurement but may be close to what the S-10 is. Hope this helps!!

Re: rear end with disks
ZR2 is the perfect width.

Re: rear end with disks
I'm just rebuilding a rear disk from a 2000 S10 Jimmy 4x4 with 3.73s and posi and from the looks of the numbers, I'll be using it with 17"x8" rims with 3 1/2" backspacing (which is stock apparantly for 2wd S10s, 4x4 are supposedly 4 1/4"- 4 1/2").
Cheers, Ted.

1979 Cadillac Seville has the heavy duty 10 bolt rear end differential and disc brakes.

Re: rear end with disks
This is what I have in my truck. My wheels are 9.5" wide with a negative offset. I will need either a .5 spacer or tub the bed a little.

Re: rear end with disks
The Ford Explorer mentioned above is probably your best bet. From 95-01 I think or close to that. They came with a beefed up 8.8 with limited slip, disc brakes, 3:73 gears (have 4:10 and 3:42 available as well i think), sway bars and e-brake cables. They are 59.5" wide factory and if you do the short side axle conversion then you can narrow it 2 more inches and not have to send your axle off to have it narrowed. Also the explorer rearend comes with the larger 3.25 axles tubes and the 31 spline axles. It is stronger then the 9" with 28 spline axles and also beefier then the dana units

Re: rear end with disks
i just picked up a zr2 rear, and to be sure that it would work, i rolled it under the truck, and mounted some 235/70r15s on 15x7 roller wheels that i keep around for mockup and whatnot. it seems to fit fine, although a wider tire would definetly not work with the standard backspace of the wheels.

Re: rear end with disks
If you narrow the axle do you have to tub the bed? I don't want to have to tub the bed. What's the short side axle conversion? I'll have to price one.

Re: rear end with disks
I am using a ZR2 rear axle with 15x8 rallyes from wheel vintiques.Right now I have 265-70s I have no clearance problems with it. I picked the tires up used cheap to see how they fit I had 255-70 in the shed.
I will probably try a shorter tire these are a little to tall. the frame is an 89 S10 setting at stock height for now. If I went any wider or had a narrower rear end I would have to use wheel tubs in the bed.
