Disc/drop and Tie Rod length problem 69 C10
Drivers side tie rod is too long, when sleeve is fully tightened.
Using original center link, otherwise all new parts checked against old ones. CPP kit, uses original ball joints, tie rods. Puzzled.... Here is the link (suspension) with photos I posted Ron http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=451878 |

Re: Disc/drop and Tie Rod length problem 69 C10
by your pic it looks like you have room to screw eack tirod end further into the sleeve or is it bottoming out? have you tried screwing tirod sleeve further onto the centerlink? have you measured how far the threads go in the sleeve and how much of the tirod end is screwing into it?

Re: Disc/drop and Tie Rod length problem 69 C10
Hi
both the inner and outer tie rod are bottoming out. They are turned in as far as they will go. There are threads still showing, both are in full. One has threads turned farther up the shaft. Initially I thought perhaps one was getting hung up internally, so I removed them both and gently cleaned up the threads with a wire wheel. RW |

Re: Disc/drop and Tie Rod length problem 69 C10
I would cut some off the inner part of the tie rod ends shafts to make them shorter

Assume you already called CPP and asked them for technical help...since you have their stuff.

The disc/drop kit is CPP, the steering parts are NAPA replacement.

Re: Disc/drop and Tie Rod length problem 69 C10
I wonder, is it possible that the steering box does not need to be exactly on-center...... If I moved it say, 1/8 or 1/4 turn, this would move the center link over enough to be OK. (it may thow out the passenger side though)?
This would also affect the turning radius side to side, unless the spindles touch the stops before the gearbox reaches its turn limit? Thoughts? Ron
