factory round mirrors?
I just got my new project. 68 with 2001 6.0 lq4 engine and 4l80e trans. Anyway. It had some ugly mirrors on it. I want to put some of the round stock style mirrors on it. The truck came with the round mirrors originally. I can tell because they did a poor job filling the holes when they painted it. Do i just drill the holes out? Doesn't look like the new replacements from LMC have self tapping screws. Do the original holes have threads in them? This is my first 67-72. Ill be asking a lot of questions lol. Thanks!!

Re: factory round mirrors?
The backing plates are a godsend. I had the same issue, bought new round replacement mirrors, the mounting arms and the hardware... except for the back plates. It took three hours and me turning into a contortionist to get nylocks on from inside the door.
Tucker's and LMC have everything but these plates... so it's worth a trip to the junk yard to track them down. Make sure you track down the backing plates. They'll save you a couple hours of fighting with mounting them.

Re: factory round mirrors?
I got new mirrors and everything to mount them up from ECE. I was lucky they even had one set of used backing plates. Do you just remove the door panel and stick your arm in the square hole? This seems like a two person job. One needs really long arms lol

Re: factory round mirrors?
I saw the Truck and Car Shop have all the parts for exterior mirrors. The backing plates are 7 bucks and gaskets 1. I'm doing this soon myself. I just dont like the tripod look. Wish they made a "slight" convex mirror to compensate for arm shake. I'll keep lookin
