Pitman arm is loose but cant get it off...
I have the pitman arm unbolted and free from the drag link and the steering box shaft, BUT I cant seem to remove the arm. if I angle the arm up, it hits the shaft and wont free the other end for the drag link. there doesnt look to be enough play. This doesnt seem to be normal, Is there some trick?
Thanks, Tony Last edited by ihatericeburners; 03-10-2011 at 08:52 PM. |

There is a special tool to remove the arm.

yes. the arm is unbolted and loose on both ends but i am unable to remove it completely because both ends bind. preventing it from moving up down or side to side.

turn the wheel all the way to the right to make the arm come towards the picture. should be able to drop once rotated

Or you can loosen the idler arm at the frame and it will drop the drag link so it should be a breeze.

Tighten it back up on the power box then use a long screw driver to pop out the other end, then take it back off the box. I did it about a month ago that way. It was still hell to get back on again.
