66 Project question!!!

So here is the deal. I have a 66 c10 and I want to put a bigger motor in it and make it 4wd. I've gotten the suggestion to swap the body onto a k10 frame. I like the idea and would like to go forward with it but there aren't many k10 longbeds in my area for the price I'm looking to pay. I have found tons of suburban s that are 4wd with 350's or even better 6.2 diesels. The question I have is will the c10 body fit on a suburban frame and work with the motor and all with out having to move it or do any major changes. The c10 wheelbase is 127 in compared to the suburbans which is 129.5 in. Anyone heard of it being done? Please help!!!

Re: 66 Project question!!!

I know of a user on here who's swapping a 63 C10 body onto a 79 K10 frame. Captainfab said he did it once too IIRC, it requires a 4in body lift if I'm not mistaken, and is a bunch of work...but it can be done.

Re: 66 Project question!!!

It can be done, but you're going to have to fabricate some body mounts. I have heard that the Suburban frames lend themselves better to this type of conversion due to the kickup in the frame being farther back. I would also consider mounting the 4x4 running gear under your '66 frame. One reason to strongly consider that is the laws in your state regarding swapping frames and how to legally deal with the different VIN number on the frame. Of course a lot of what to do depends on your equipment and skills in the metal fabrication department.
