Fortunately we are at low tide so a 3 foot wave should not be a problem.

I hope all is well on our coasts. I got a call at 5am from my son in Okinawa telling me he was ok and they may be going over to the mainland for search and rescue at any time. I have a nephew in Osaka but we havent been able to reach him. It looks real bad over there with more to come.

Nothing bad here, thoughts go out to those in Japan. The brother of my sister-in-law lives over there and was pretty rattled, and for him to admit ...it must have been bad.

Re: Coastal West Coasters.. etc

Been watching the news here and nothing has happened here. They have closed some schools on the coast because they didn't want school busses in the middle of an evacuation. The have also evacuated some of the lower towns and all beaches. We are supposed to get a 3' wave, but so far it hasn't happened. I was digging clams the last time a tsunami was supposed to hit. (The Chili earthquake) (That was a non event here) So now I can brag that I was digging clams during a tsunami.. I do feel bad for the people in Japan though, man the films coming over from there are horrible.

Same here. It amounted to nothing.

We live about 75 miles/ 1.5 hours away from the coast.
The local news is milking it though.

Tsunami on the Coast, Hawaii, Japan

Hope everyone's friends and family are safe and away from the problems along the coast and Hawaii, or in Japan. Some of us are lucky to be inlanders...

I watchin the news this morning and the lady was letting every one know the water level had came up but now it looks like it was starting to go down so the tsunami was on its way.....hmmm I'm looking at the tide table and my clock, it looks like the tide might be going out

were suppose to have a minus tide today so we probably wont even notice it

Re: Coastal West Coasters.. etc

I've got a friend in Japan who was in the bathroom when it happened. He said he thought he was having a 8.6 BM on the Richter scale. Also have friends in Hawaii but they live up high and didn't have to evacuate.
Both were ok, thank God.

I guess It go abit ugly in Santa Cruz, one marina got devastated... boats trashed and some washed out to sea. Nothing compared to the tragedies abroad of coarse.

Re: Coastal West Coasters.. etc

Pretty stupid, huh Liz? Lots of people watching here at Pismo and Avila - basically, it looked like the tide going in and out in about 5 minutes, but nothing more dramatic than that here. It is weird to think that something that happened that far away you could even see here - it must have been an incredible experience for those people. My prayers are out to those who have lost family and have to rebuild.

Very sad story in Japan. The only thing that happened here was false media hype. Seattle is Tokyos so called sister city. I'm sure the local news stations will be reporting that the sky is falling weeks from now.

Re: Coastal West Coasters.. etc

I stayed up late last night surfing the net for information, during which time the Emergency broadcast came over the tube.. I finally found a site that predicted the wave would be about 6" (yes 6") high and promptly went to bed LOL!

Well,it could have been 6'. It's not like we can order these things by the inch. It does what it does. Sometimes we are lucky and sometimes not. We know an awful lot about tsunamis for as infrequently they occur. Yet,there is no exact science...many factors. It's best to prepare for the worst than be sitting ducks. If only the builders of that nuclear reactor had figured on the worst case scenario and not the least probable scenario. Believe me,I truly hope that is media hype. Nothing like a triple wammy.

I couldn't agree more on the nucular problems! I don't like nucular anything to begin with.

I was just telling what happed to me, i was pretty concerned when i heard about it, what was going thru my head was what should i do to prepare even tho i don't live in an area that would be directly affected, should i run to the store and stock up on food and water as the trucking lines may be shut down?
I don't discount that it did affect others most notably in hawaii and the marina in Ca I feel for the people affected. Natural disasters are no laughing matter regardless of the type, i have survived a tornado and earthquake as well as a 100 mph windstorm, i really don't want to have to go thru any more...
