I am wondering what to watch out for when swaping an 84 chevy 4x4 running gear into a 72 blazer 4x4 will it work without to much trouble. 84 has 350 with 700r4 and 3/4 ton axles 72 has 350 with turbo350 thanks

Re: need help with swap
I did this a bunch of years ago, so I'm just going on memory cells --
I remember that the rear axle swapped without any problems. The front axle, though, was different, so you need to check it out carefully before your commit yourself. What I remember was the leaf springs were longer on the newer axle and the steering hook-up was different. For one thing to center the wheel on the older truck you pulled the steering wheel with the wheels set straight forward, then replaced the steering wheel in the correct orientation. On the newer truck the link from the steering box was adjustable. Also I believe one used a steering box with a spline output shaft (I think the newer one) and the older one used a keyed shaft. All I can say is, "Do your homework before you get completely committed and you'll be OK." |

Re: need help with swap
I swaped a 79 blazer into my 88 crew cab and it switched just fine no problems what so ever. PM me and I'll hook you up with my cell number for details and questions
