Check out my tailgate

This is my tailgate after meeting a DRUNK DRIVER. Shoved the trailer right through my tailgate, he then hit me again. I was going 50 MPH.

Re: Check out my tailgate

was he insured?
did he stick around?
I hope the answer to those is yes to both... even if they are both yes, it's gonna be an uphill battle

The insurance company can't say you were backing a trailer fast enough to hit him and do that!

Re: Check out my tailgate

After the cop told me what he said I admitted to driving backwards at 50 MPH with a trailer. We all had a good laugh and the cop said I must be good with a trailer.

That totally sucks. I hope you get enough $ from him to fix your truck..and more. Side note: do you have pictures of the caps you are running on those slot wheels?

Re: Check out my tailgate

Drunk drivers suck! Glad you're ok.... I assume you are, you didn't say otherwise.

Maybe you'll end up with enough money to get another bed and end up with a cool tailgate to hang on the wall for a shop conversation piece.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of hitch did you have, looks like it did it's job. Got any pictures?

Kind of like a towable portable crumple zone device!

Re: Check out my tailgate

Thanks Lakeroadster, I checked with them at Long Beach and was told they don't have those anymore. I see they have them on the website, maybe I'll call. Anything to make my truck look a little better. My first thought upon being hit was why wasn't I in my van.

Glad you are okay and hope the others are as well. Hopefully your truck isn't damaged too bad.

Re: Check out my tailgate

Make sure you don't sign off any medical release until you're sure you're okay! I know it sounds like an old insurance fraud scam but "whiplash" is real and can take some time before you notice any pain or damage. I was in an accident with a friend when I was about 22, he was goofing off in his 69 Elcamino when he hit the e brake at about 60, the car spun around and hit a telephone pole in the middle of the tailgate, both our heads went through the rear window. His insurance company offered to pay me $1000 to sign a medical release, being young and dumb I took the money and signed. I now have no feeling in my left hand and half the strength. I also have a disc that has come in constant contact with my spinal cord. I have to be very careful or I could lose more than just the feeling and strength!
It's worth getting an MRI if you can swing it!

I'm surprised he even had a car left to drive. What was left of his car?

Re: Check out my tailgate

Thank you all for the support and advice, adjuster will look at my truck & trailer tomorrow. The other car is pretty much toast. Being that he split the scene I didn't see his car that night but just happened to see it on a flat bed as it was pulling into a local bodyshop.

Re: Check out my tailgate

you must be DAMN good with a trailer if you can back it at 50mph, especially it being THAT short :P

Glad everything is good, but on that medical stuff make sure you're good, I fractured my skull in two places and broke my nose because my friend swerved to miss a dog... Talk about a long battle, one hell of a headache, wildest black eye ever, cool solid blood red eye (I thought the chicks would dig it, happens they don't...), and don't remember about a solid two months really. Not to mention some kick@$$ headaches and ears ringing 3 years later.

Re: Check out my tailgate

Nice score on the buckets, can't believe the guy traded you straight across. I've got a near perfect low hump A.C. '72 cab that I will be using but I am going to need a shortstep box and tailgate. Just missed a complete bed from Rally Wheel Paul for $300. The good news is I may have a check for the truck this week, and no salvage title.
