steering wheels

Hi folks, have been doing some searching on this site for steering wheels.. I am doing the interior over in the 68. i have a 69 auto colum. I want to put a smaller steering wheel on it. I like the idea of all black. I dont like grant's ( too many horn problems ). What would be a direct bolt on i could use?. Thanks for the ideas....Russ

Re: steering wheels

I wouldn't recommend the Grant wheel either; I have the wooden one and can't keep the horn cap from flying off!

Re: steering wheels

a common and nice upgrade is the 4 spoke padded piece from 90's c/k trucks, s series, and both astro and G series vans.

The cushion wheel off a 1970 and later Corvette with the adapter for a 1968 and earlier Camaro/Chevelle/Nova wood steering wheel.

Haha! same exact thing happened to me!! i had to hold the center up with one hand and drive with the other until i could stop and get it supported...slipped my insurance card under an edge. definately blew the dust out of the horns that day! i have since siliconed the crap out of the cap so it aint going anywhere

As for wheels, I prefer the 88-94 c/k truck steering wheels. I'm sure someone will post some pics

Re: steering wheels

If you had $185 you could have bought this on eBay over the weekend.

That is funny! I went out to my truck the other day and found the cap on the seat and the horn doesn't work anymore (blown fuse?). I give up! I took out the spring, and taped up the wire for now. I was thinking maybe cutting some coils out of that little spring might make it work, but I don't know. I would hate to have wasted $100.

I agree, they could have designed a better horn button for those wheels. A thick bead of silicone around the rim of the cap will get you where you need to be though.

Re: steering wheels

Making the wheel work isn't much of a problem, its the horn. Make sure you look at how the bits to make the horn work are put together when you take it apart.

Any chance you could point me to this adapter, I have one of these wheels I'd like to put on my 72.
