edelbrock problems
i just put a rebuild edelbrock 1405 carb on my truck found out that it was missing metering rods and primary jets got new ones and it still doesn't run correctly because i can close both idle screws and it doesn't change anything. any suggestions of what i should look for or replace.

Closing the screws will not stall these carbs out.
Turn the screws one at a time and in very small incraments to achieve the highest vacume reading. |

If you turn the adjustment screws in and there is no change, then there is a problem. Possibly a bad float level or trash in the carb. You should be able to have a starting point of having both screws turned out 1 1/2 turns. Turn them in until the engine starts to stumble, then back out 1/2-3/4 turn. If you turn the screws all the way in, it should almost if not kill the engine. If not, then the carb has issues.

if i dont move the screws at all eventually the engine will stall. and i know the float level is correct but if there was a lot of stuff in the carb could that be clogging the jets.

I had that with a new Edelbrock 1406. The adjuster screws had no effect at all. It turned out that the timing was way out.

A good starting place for tuning the idle is to turn both screws all the way in, then back them out two turns.......

Also somethign i forgot, these things are very sensitive to low vacume engines. If you aren't pullin much vacume, then you'll need to swap to lighter springs.

On my 1406 I found that a slight throttle linkage bind didn't allow the accelerator to go all the way against the idle stop. It held the throttle plates slightly open, which would not allow the idle set screws to adjust correctly.
