I found this listing on craigslist and was wondering what differences there are in the newer carburetors. This is off an 84, here's the ad:

"pulled off a running 1984 c10 truck. got a real good deal on a holley and just wanted to try it. has sat for about 4 months may need rebuilding up to yourself. does me no good want the sell"

$60 obo!!

Alternate question: where can I buy an already rebuilt Qjet for my 350/350 truck, and what is a reasonable price.

i believe that 84 might be a electronic controlled carb, i know my 86 monte was electric q-jet which i switched out for an older. Jegs, summit and Jet performance sells them ready to go, Q-jets are great carbs in my book

I believe he's telling you right. The carbs that I'd use would be built before 74. There are several different varieties of Q-Jets, but those that have the exposed screws for the idle air adjustments are what I'd stick with. If you can't see those screws on the front bottom, put it back and keep looking. So, basically, a Q-Jet from '65-73 is the best bet.

I prefer the late 70's early 80's. They have the round choke witch will fit any manifold. If it doesn't have the electric choke you can put one in it. Like Hub says dont get one with the electronic engine controls. If it has the caps over the idle mixture screws they are easy to remove. I pay $5 to $15 at swap for them & rebuild it. If you get one thats ready to go it would be worth more. If the throttle shaft has a little play in it it will be OK but if its excessive pass on it or have it rebushed.

Sean Murphy Induction, highly recommend. I sent a Q-jet in when it came back removed it from the box (looked brand new BTW) installed on the 68 DD adjusted the idle mixture screw and been runnin it everyday for over two years now with no problems even in below freezing weather. The burb is definitely going to get an SMI Q-jet. They run around $3-4oo but in my opinion very well worth it. I realize there are guys out there that can make em work but for my money I aint takin the chance! Sean and crew know their stuff! And they stand behind their work.
