Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

I have the same problem you do. So far I haven't found anywhere that has a patch panel. It would be nice if they did. I really don't wanna buy a whole inner fender when the rest of mine is still good. I had a Chevelle once that had the same problem and they did make one for it. Guess I will be fabbing up one out of an old hood I have lying around. Maybe someone will see this and have or know a solution for us.

Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

When I had some money laying around, I bought a pair of new inners. Guess I'm gonna have some used ones.

Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

I fixed the one on my Camaro.
Now I have a few hundred labor in a part that costs $70. I should have gotten the new one.

Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

There was a German guy that was building a truck and had to repair his inner fender and core support. Some nice fabrication work. I believe he was going to be running on propane or LNG. Was on here last year.

I came across someone who was making a patch panel for the passenger inner fender. I could have sworn that it was Brothers, but I can't find it on there site now!

Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

I'd have to guess that it may be a case that there are too many rust prone spots on the inner fenders to even bother trying to offer patches for them given the number of curves and whatnot. The pair off my 69 are pretty solid aside from any of the mounting brace locations, those spots are eaten pretty badly. The ones on my parts truck are even worse. I plan on tinkering a bit and trying to patch mine as best I can. It's actually going to be the first metal work I attempt as any experience gained before working on the exterior stuff is a bonus. I might have to stray from the factory curvatures a bit given my lack of metalworking tools but I don't see it being a big deal.

Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

I have the same problem in my 1971 Cheyenne 1/2 ton long bed the black one pictured

I've been told its cheaper to buy them new and it really dose not matter the core support got it as well so i will be removing the front end but wont touch the fender or the hood everything closed so nice and i have a brand new 500.00 chrome steel grill for the 1971 got it 5 years ago been sitting for enough time to rip this apart and put all the new parts back in it.

word to the wise after you do your metal work or buy a new one Go out and buy some rubber under coating and Spray the crap out of the area that you just fixed so it wont happen again

Re: Passenger inner fender repair.

You can buy inners CHEAP $35 from certifit the fit good but are pretty thin. I dented mine, but I had all my weight(225 on a light day) on one knee on it. Dent popped out with a good smack from the bottom.

I have found that switching to an internally regulated alternator will help keep the battery from overcharging, which is what boils the acid out of he battery, which eats the paint off the inner fender and core support and then eats at the metal.

The main deal killer on inner fenders is SHIPPING due to size. I try to find them at a meet to keep from having to pay shipping.
