Longhorn questions
Were Longhorns available with steel bed floors or only wood?
Were Longhorns available as Cheyennes and or Cheyenne Supers or could they be optioned with Z84 and not badged as Cheyennes. Thanks |

Re: Longhorn questions
Bill, they were wood floors only. yes they could have been Supers, or Cheyenne Supers. The Z84 option code i'm not sure, but I bet LHM will.

Re: Longhorn questions
This truck is a 71 with C/20 Custom Camper fender badges and a SPID with
Z84 Custom Sport Truck. In 71 Z84 became the code for Cheyenne. I know some 71's still listed CST instead of Cheyenne. It has Cheyenne trim. I just thought it would have Cheyenne fender badges instead of what it has. Was wondering which would be correct, or if they both could be correct. |

Re: Longhorn questions
custom camper badges usually trumped CST or cheyenne and supers.
And the above is correct on wooden floors, that was the olnly way they came. and no, my ears weren't burning... not too much anyways. |

Re: Longhorn questions
If it has the headliner and correct cheyenne trim group it should have cheyenne20 emblems. At least I have never had one or seen a 71 or 72 this way and I have had alot.I have had gmcs custom sport truck or cheyenne z84 on the spid and they only had 1500 v eight emblems but they had super custom on the door and they where 69 and 70.I have never seen a custom camper badged truck on the fender with a headliner.Everyone I have seen with the headliner was a cheyenne or super on the fender and custom camper on the door.71/72. cst badges in 69/70

Re: Longhorn questions
Anything is possible and I'm not doubting what anyone else has.I have parted well over a 100 of these truck and I was just stating the way the ones I own and have owed are.c/10 custom/10 custom /10 deluxe cheyenne/10 cheyenne/10 super.lowest trim level to highest trim level. custom camper is same as custom deluxe except 20 or 30 series.trucks should be badged on the fender with highest trim level on the spid in most but not every case.I have had custom deluxes with everything a cheyenne had even woodgrain trim and tailgate woodgrain except interior woodgrain and headliner.the custom deluxes I had this way had special promo on the spid.

Re: Longhorn questions
custom camper isn't a trim level, it's an equipment level.

Re: Longhorn questions
I had a Cheyenne Super Custom Camper that had the Custom Camper script on the door. At the same time I had a Cheyenne Custom Camper with no Cheyenne badging and a Custom Camper fender badge. The difference is the Custom Camper option was an equipment package. Once that was ordered you could also order the Custom Camper nameplate, which is the fender badge. If you didn't you got the door script. At least that's what I have seen, and this is on 71/72s.
I have a pair of GMC Custom Camper 3500 fender badges. I always figured this was the nameplate option. In this case it would no doubt be a Custom Camper,as in 8'6" truck since they are 3500s. But,all the 8'6" trucks I ever see have the door script with the trim level on the fender badge. GMCs confuse me because they also used the fender badge to display V-Six or V-Eight. I always figured that was only on base trim level. But,Vintage Windmills is parting a C2500 Sierra Grande and it has V-Eight badges.

Re: Longhorn questions
Yep, Z84 (Custom Sport Truck) is on the Spid with Z81 Camper Nameplate. Is it weird there is no other Camper equipment on the Spid, Like camper wiring? It does have hvy rear suspension though. Custom Camper script is on the doors and V eight on the fenders.

Re: Longhorn questions
I had a '68 K/10 Custom Camper/10. I have wondered if that was only '69. Mine was also a CST marked like yours...Maroon w/red interior,wood floor,8" steel wheels,silver pinstripe,tach,3spd,tow hooks,auxiliary fuel tank,clearance lamps,350,p/s,p/b,a/c. That's about all I remember,other than I sold it because I wanted a 4spd K/20 and bought a stripped down '71...go figure. I wish I could have stashed that one (I bought for $800)

Re: Longhorn questions
I had a 71 Longhorn Cheyenne/20 that was optioned with the custom camper package. The fenders had the customcamper/20 emblems instead of the cheyenne emblems. It was all original. Had the deluxe markers, upper/lower cheyenne trim, headliner, etc.

Re: Longhorn questions
So it seems we've got alot of evidence in this thread that Custom Camper will be on the truck if Camper nameplate is on the SPID, it doesn't matter what trim level the truck is.
Due to this, it seems rare to have Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super emblems on a longhorn, right?

Re: Longhorn questions
According to what I have found out yesterday it would have fender tags with the equipment level " custom deluxe, cheyenne ,cheyenne super" etc with custom camper script on the doors standard. If it had custom camper equipment you could get custom camper fender tag if order this way.If it has custom camper fender tags some one checked the box.

cheyenne super" etc with custom camper script on the doors standard
This is what I have on my 1972 C/30 Longhorn Super. It is unmolested and I am the third owner. It was sold here in Ridgecrest Ca. and has remained here its whole life. My 1970 GMC Longhorn has the CST option on the spid with the door scripts. Great thread and it is always nice to keep the info on longhorn's alive.

Re: Longhorn questions
I think we may have nailed it already. Custom Camper is an equipment package. If that package is ordered "then" you can also order Custom Camper Nameplates, which are the fender badges. If not ordered the script is on the door. That's what I have seen on all the Custom Campers I've had. I think Jason's may not have the Custom Camper package at all...just a guess. The "camper somewhere" could be camper mirrors I see on it,which could be ordered without the Custom Camper package. I can't say for sure if the camper wiring was only available once the Custom Camper package was spec'd or also was available w/o. Neither the mirrors or wiring are part of the package. I'm sure on the mirrors being available on anything, even Blazers. I'll have to check on the wiring.

Re: Longhorn questions
camper wiring was availble with or without packages. My Longhorn is a no package at all C/30, and it had the camper harness.

Re: Longhorn questions
Here's the SPID from the truck in question. Sorry about the picture. Fender Custom Camper badges so no Cheyenne badging and no door script. And to answer LHM's question from another thread, yes the Dark Blue/Med Blue is factory.
