Headlight switch? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My dash lights are not working every time on my 71 DD truck. There is not power at the fuse when they are not working, but if I jump power over to that fuse the light come on even with the light switch off. So that tells me that the fuse is after the switch so if switch is not putting power to the fuse then dash lights are not going to work. Has anyone had this happen? Headlight switches are cheap enough just dont want to waste money if thats not it. The wiring in this truck has not been hacked at all and was a major selling point when i bought it.

dont know what you are tryin to say but, on most trucks (after this long), when you hit the high beams, the headlights stop working, and when you click off the high beams your lights return, this means you will need to get that new switch on the floor

Trying to say the dash lights are not working and has anyone ever had a headlight switch cause this?

Are the headlights working.when the dash lights are not?What about the park lights? I have had the same problem and it was the ground for the instrument cluster.All the lights worked but the dash lights tho.

Check the fuse holder for rust where the fuse clips in. I have cleaned these with a small ball stone in a Dremel. Also try rotating the headlight knob, it controls the brightness of the instrument cluster lights.

Yep I turned the knob first thing thinking someone had just dimmed them. I looked and didn't see any rust on the holder.

Headlights and parking light are both working when the dash lights are not. But I do remember my 69 lwb doing that. The dash and parking lights would not work at the same time. Done remember if I ever fixed it or not.

99% chance it is the headlight switch
