Parchment Interior Pix

If you guys have some, I'd like to see some pics of parchment interiors. That was what mine came with and I'm thinking of going back to it when I reupholster. What color steering wheel came with the parchment interior? Also, does anyone know if the base model 71 GMC would have come with the vinyl door panels or if they came with metal ones?

Re: Parchment Interior Pix

I'm fairly new to the forum but check out the interior pics in my thread below. My truck is Medium Green (looks like yours is too) with Parchment interior. Still says "MED GREEN" "PARCHMENT" on the firewall. My steering wheel won't be much help for you as it has a nice tape job on it currently. Going to replace it soon and paint it to match the glovebox/dash. Let me know if you need some more photos of the interior. Very sharp truck you've got there.

Re: Parchment Interior Pix

steering wheel would be either tan, or black. Depends on the color of the steering column and dash pad. It could go either way.

Oh Yeah! I remember your truck! VERY nice... Thanks for posting here. So that's what parchment looks like, huh? Are those seats all vinyl or are there cloth inserts? I like them.

Seat is all vinyl as it appears today. I'm certain it has been recovered at some point (most likely in 1988), so I cannot be for sure what it looked like when my grandfather picked it up in '72.

Re: Parchment Interior Pix

This interior is pretty correct. We did not have a good sandalwood steering wheel so we painted the column plack to match the wheel.

befor and after clean up.

Re: Parchment Interior Pix

sameyrasmea72,... Did you dye that dash pad or is another original?

My '70 stepside has what the SPID calls a "gold" interior.
It seems a little darker than parchment.
I'm trying to duplicate the original "gold" dashpad color.
Any ideas?
Or is parchment the same color?

That is a truck we bought to sell. I don't really remember, but I am pretty sure it came out of another truck.

As far as the gold you are talking about, that is another color I think. We have sold some nice originals gold ones in the past. I think we have a gold one in a 70 camper that I will show/offer to you when we get it out......Jason

gold isn't the same, my longhorn used to have the gold, but it's all gone now... didn't care for it one bit.

I would be interested in it.
Thanks.
Sorry for the "parchment" hijack.
I thought maybe it was the same color,... just named different in the '70 moel trucks.
Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Parchment Interior Pix

There are at least 2 different parchment colors. The 71/72 parchment is a much lighter color than the 70; I found this out the hard way.
My 71 had parchment (off-white) doors/seat/visors and "Sandalwood" column/wheel/dash pad covering/floor. The sandalwood is a medium beige color; I once found someone selling a repop dash pad in sandalwood, but have not found any of the other parts. Eventually I gave up on sandalwood and used saddle, which is a darker brown. To my eye the parchment/saddle looks quite good, even though it is not correct.

Hey MusicMan Very nice interior. Do you know if it is the original and if so, what trim level is your truck?

Re: Parchment Interior Pix

Here's mine when I started to replace the blue stuff. I painted the door panels to match the sun visors, headliner and seatbelts I have - they came out spot on perfect color match. I've only done the door panels to date. I am thinking about putting the chrome "trim" on the door panels as well ( I have some but haven't poked the holes in the door panels yet).

"Parchment" is a fancy name GM gave for off-white interior color.

I haven't see ONE original steering wheel, no matter what the color, from 69-72 that isn't a mess of cracks and breaks. You can buy remanufactured, if you dont mind steering your truck with a chinese wheel. Not for me.

It sure seems to me that the Sandalwood steering wheels didn't fare very well in the elements. Here's how mine looked after 30+ years of Texas sun... Sadly, the sandalwood apparently aren't repop'd

I think the Parchment / Sandalwood interior combo is a great look with the medium olive paint. My granddad had excellent taste...

It's Plasti-kote, super enamal, T-27 Antique white (bar code: 0 71915 00127 7 not sure if that'll help anyone).
It is a spot on perfect, exact color match to all the nice original stuff I've piled up.
